We were out at the aquarium most of the day, and DD had to pee, and totally flipped out in the bathroom. She really had to go, but only wanted to use the toilet at home. (Yeah, good luck. <_< ) She wouldn't even sit on the toilet with me holding her tight. But here's what finally worked - I sat on the toilet pretty far back, and had her sit down right in front of me. Mission accomplished!

Just wanted to share a eureka moment. (And I would love to hear about any other tips, since this is such a common problem!)

Great idea to get her to sit.

I carried a fold up potty ring with me all the time along with post-it notes to cover the sensor on the automatic flushing toilets.

I carried the girls potty in the van for almost a year because both girls refused to use a public toilet. They finally got over it, but they still hate to hear the toilet flush and will seriously freak out if I try to flush while they are anywhere near.

At my school, we gave kids post it notes to put over the sensor. I think you can put a magnet over it too.

Thanks for the tips! My DD is terrified of public toilets and maybe these ideas might help her out!

Great ideas! Both of mine are scared of public toilets. I always keep their "froggy potty" in the car at all times.

Yep, drape a piece of tissue over the sensor and take it off as you are leaving. Lessens the fear!
