I have peiple telling me constanly that mine look identical. Although I do think my boys look similiar they also have some pretty big differences. M has more Asian eyes and C has more of an eye lid. M has a kink in his ear C doesn't. M is body type is more solid and C is slimmer in the chest. M's nose is slighty turned up. C face is WAY shorter.
Now they both have the same blood type, hair, color eyes and skin and same mouth. They both have had they same medical issues and have the same kind of birth mark on their little butts. Is it even possible for them to be identical with all those differences though??

Oh and here are two pictures for comparison.

my girls are ID but i can tell them apart pretty easily - from what i understand the only things that are guaranteed to match in ID twins is hair colour, eye colour, and height (someone please correct me if i'm wrong). a lot of other things can be influenced by exterior forces. as for my girls, Riley has a dimple when she smiles, Danika doesn't, Danika has a birth mark on her left shoulder, Riley doesn't, and their faces are different shapes.

First of all, the are adorable!! And if I had to guess, I would say they are identical. My girls are identical and look SO different to me, but everyone else tells me all the time how much alike they look. Yes, it is most certainly possible for them to have differences and still be identical!

To me your boys look ID. My boys look so completely different to me, but no one can tell them apart right away. If family and strangers can't tell them apart at all, they are likely to be ID. No Mom of ID twins think they look alike-NONE! My boys have so many differences similar to yours. Jakes face is rounder, he was born with a kink in his ear, they did not get teeth at exactly the same time, etc. Actually Jacob is always a month behind Nathan in gettin teeth and meeting milestones. They are different as night and day in personality.

So, yes ID's can be very different. I read an article the other day about adult ID twins and how different they had become over the years. Just because something is genetic doesn't mean ID twins will both always have it. The chances are typically greater than 50% though. For example, both of my twins have autism. They say ID twins have a 60% or greater chance of both having it, whereas siblings and Frat. twins were at best up to 25% chance of both (or more siblings if there are more) having autism. ID twins that live apart as adults tend to look much different than those that live together and tend to have different diseases etc.

I think your boys are ID and very cute!!!

That's another thing Colin has always been half an inch shorter.

Mine are identical (mono/di) girls, 2 months old.
At birth they were a pound apart and 1/2 inch different in size. They're still 1/2 inch different and 1lbs 2 oz different now.

Kayla is the bigger one. She has more hair (they both were born with a lot of black hair) and her hair appears darker. (I think it's an illusion because she has more, but it's what people studying the two of them always say).

Part of appearance is determined by the pregnancy and birth environment. Megan, my smaller one, was always "really squished down there" they'd say when they did sonograms. (I asked if that was a medical phrase, but it wasn't  )
When they're sleeping, Megan's face appears shorter and chubbier. But when they're both awake and alert, they both look more similar.

In pictures I can always tell them apart, but in person, if I don't know which one is where/wearing what, and I only see Kayla, I often mistake her for Megan. But if I see Megan, I don't generally mistake her for Kayla.

(Yes, I sometimes still mix them up..but not for longer than it takes to look at the other one!)

Oh, I have read that ID twins can differ in height! Mine are the same, but they weigh differently and always have.

your boys are adorable! and definately ID! I am 90% sure mine are ID as I think they are different but everyone else thinks they are ID. I have one that has a dimple, the other doesn't. One has a widows peak hairline, the other doesnt. One has a birth mark on his right hand, the other has one on his upper left arm. One always gets a diper rash, one never does. The differences go on and on. So I guess they should stop calling ID twins identical and start calling them almost identical!

My boys have a lot of differences, too. Their eye and head shape is different and one has a rounder face. Their mouths are exactly the same along with their noses. They are the same height right now, but at birth Van was an inch and a half shorter. They look identical to me, but the only way to really know for sure is to do a DNA test. Good luck!! :)

I have mono/di boys who had TTTS, so we're certain they are identical. (What a crappy way to find out you have identicals, right?!) Thankfully, they survived, but they do look different to me due to TTTS-influenced size differences. One definitely has more baby fat, so around their eyes looks different. They are starting to look more alike in some photos to me, but I can look at them right away and tell who is who.

I think your guys look identical. Very Cute X 2! But I'm not a pro at this!

My boys are ID as well but I don't think they look alike. To someone other than DH or myself, they can't tell them apart. Their eyes are different, their face shape is different, one has more hair, and Marcus has a birthmark on his back that Maddox doesn't have.

DH is always asking me, "Are you SURE they're ID?" He's the one who answered the phone when the doctor called after the testing so I always say, "You're the one who answered the phone, you tell me!"

from what i understand the only things that are guaranteed to match in ID twins is hair colour, eye colour, and height (someone please correct me if i'm wrong).

height is not genetic. environmental factors affect height, such as nutrition and illness, so there can be a significant height difference between identical twins.

the way i understand it, the identical genes mean they were exactly alike at the moment they split. from that point forward environment (even in-utero) can affect them differently. there can be any number of factors even during gestation that change their characteristics, which is why you can have one with dimples and one without. my boys have different shaped heads from where they were located during gestation. one is rounder, the other is more tapered.

the analogy i read is that it's like having two identical chairs. you put one near the window in full sunlight and the other one in a darkened room. the upholstery on the sunlit chair will fade and the two chairs will look different because they were exposed to different environmental factors.

the general shape of the nose would be genetic. but one being a little more upturned than the other could be an effect of space restrictions in-utero. i'm not saying that's the case here, but it's a possibility.

My girls don't look alike to me either as long as I see them both together. I also have one twin who is shorter than the other, but you really can't tell by looking at them. When the pedi measures them Amelia is always longer, but I don't know if it's just the way we lay them on the scale b/c it sure doesn't look like Amelia is taller when they stand by each other. I wish one of mine had a birthmark to help other people tell them apart!

Your boys look ID to me too.

Your boys are adorable... and definitely ID. My girls sound just like your two; I can tell them apart with no problems at all, but to everyone else they look the same. My girls were mono/di so I know they're identical. One has more hair and her build is leaner than her sis. My other girl is stockier, her face is rounder, different head shape, her eyes look larger and greener, and she's almost a pound heavier and 3/4 of an inch taller.

Id girls here but one is an inch shorter, 1.5 pounds skinner and her face shape different (baby a, head down, baby b head up)

Just yesterday I was looking through old video of the girls and I totally was wrong on who we were watching! I said to DH, "ahhh isn't A so cute??" and then in the video you hear me say, "J..." to try and get her attention. Dh just laughed at me at me.

There is no doubt in my mind your boys are ID. My boys are ID and look nothing alike to me. Totally different shaped faces, different heights, different birthmarks....but still ID per the DNA test we did.

Here's an easy way to tell with the first pic you posted for us... I've actually done this w/ a few of my boys' prof pics.

Take 2 pieces of paper and cut a little hole, maybe size of dime or a tad larger. Place it on the picture so that ONLY the little face is showing.. just enough to get both eyes, nose and mouth in the hole. Do this to both faces.

What you will see--- is the same face! It's never done me wrong!! I don't have to use the paper anymore but for fun, I do sometimes cuz it's just soo cool to compare the features by themselves like that.

They are identical. I see HUGE differences in my boys. I can always tell them apart unless they are backwards (facing away from me), or profile only, upside down, or wearing a hat! Otherwise, when they're next to each other: I'm thinking... "How can those two be identical!?"

They are soo cute, Christy! Thanks for sharing their pics!

My girls are ID too. I can tell them apart with one glance. Keira has more hair, a thinner face, and her eyes seem closer together as opposed to Carly. The biggest way they look different to me is in the eyes. I can't explain it especially since if you look at just their eyes separately, they look exactly the same. Go figure! However, strangers can't tell them apart and family often mix them up. The older they get, they are looking more and more alike though. Your boys look ID to me.

I wouldn't go by height - my girls are identical and are 2 inches apart in height along with 4 lbs!! I know they are identical because they were monoamniotic twins.

You are noticing variations of the same features, and that has convinced you that they are frat. But listen to yourself. X's face is slightly longer. X's ear has an extra kink. Frats don't look so similar. For example, mine have different eye and hair color. Their faces aren't slightly different - they are completely different. And parents of frats never confuse them.

I can reply here now. :) We just found out our girls are ID and they have slightly different hairlines and K has a dimple on her right cheek and J has one on her left cheek. I can tell them apart but it helps that J weighs almost a pound more. :)

When I looked at their pictures I thought they looked identical. My boys are fraternal and it's obvious. Your boys look very identical to me, but I have to admit something. It's a bit harder for me to tell with twins of different ethnicity than me. I'm of Anglo-Saxon decent. Your boys are A D O R A B L E by the way.

Ya I know, all Asians look the same right  My boys are half filipino. I am Caucasian. I thought it might be weird having kids that look like a different ethnicity than me but it's really not. (and actually I think one looks quite a bit like me..really ;) ) Anyways thats a whole different thread!

I feel this same way about my boys....I can just about always tell them apart, but hats can really throw me off! ;-)

Christy, Your boys are just precious! I say definitely ID. Keep us posted! ~Erin
