I know there are a lot of us on here who were all expecting together who either have twins who have recently turned 2 or will be turning 2 in the next few months. Please answer a few questions for me! Just trying to get some ideas!

    1. What did YOU get them for their birthday?

    2. What is a "must-have" for a 2 year old?

    3. What is the worst b-day present they received?

    4. what has been the best b-day present they received.

Just trying to get gift ideas...not only for us, but for others when they ask. We have already bought the girls the Step 2 Sand & Water Table with the umbrella. We are also getting them each a Step 2 Ride-On Motorcycle. Oh and I'm getting them each one of those Snap 'N Go Dolls with the interchangable outfits.

    Hi Becky,

Good questions! I wish I would have asked these before N & G's birthday party last weekend... though, I have to admit that they got some really great stuff. Mostly because I made two requests: no toys with lots of small parts (i.e. blocks, legos, little people, etc) and all things that needed to be put togther should arrive at the party put together.

    1. DH and I got them tickets to see Ralph's World in concert (we went on Sunday, the day after their party). I don't know if you've seen Ralph's World... they perform in between Noggin shows. They happened to be on after Little Einsteins a lot and my kiddos loved the music. It was a great show (for parents, too) and was something to do with them, rather than buying them more toys. The only toy I bought was a no spill bubble bucket.

    2. Hmm... not sure there are "must haves" but the things that my kids have that they love at this age are their kitchen (xmas present), their playhouse for outside (a 1st b'day present that they are just now using a lot) and a sandbox (liked it last year, but I think it will be a bigger hit this year).

    3. This is tough... their presents were really great this time around. They got a lot of stuff at hanukkah/christmas that they didn't need or didn't really know what to do with but we didn't have that issue this time.

    4. They each got a Kettler trike which they love (but haven't been able to ride much yet because of the weather). They also got a Step 2 slide which they love. They got a cookie jar from Learning Express (at first I was not thrilled because it went against my request of no small parts, but it's a great learning toy). It has ten cookies inside. Each one has a number printed on the back from 1-10 and then has the correct number of candies on the other side (made to look like M&M cookies). We've been counting all week with them and they are really starting to make the connection between the numbers and the candies. My SIL made a great gift... she took a wall hanging that has pockets for each letter and she used photographs of things that are familiar to my kids for each letter ("M" for mommy that was a picture of me). There were lots of others... but those were the favorites.

HTH! I can't believe your girls are going to be 2 in a few weeks. It's crazy how fast the time has gone!

Around 2, we got them a trike-couldn't pedal for 3-4 months after that. THe Step 2 picnic table is a must! We also got the sand and water table and they got the Step 2 naturally playful foldup slide-awesome!
I wouldn't say they got any gifts that weren't good.
I will list a couple of them, aquadoodle, babies, tent and tunnel, puzzles, Dora stuff including dish sets, letter games such as memory and fun fishing games.
I don't think you can go wrong with gifts. If they can't use it right at that moment, save it for later. You will be excited when it is time to bring it out.
    Have fun!

Mine got and LOVE Puzzels, music toys like a play drum, zylaphone, harmonica. They love their baby dolls and strollers.

They got a few toys that I dislike and we never play with. A villiage with a plastic mat with toms of little trees , cars, houses that go on it. There where a few others but I can't think of them. Anything that has a tons of parts I just do not like. They get every where and the kids do not play well with them yet. HTH

    1. What did YOU get them for their birthday? I can not, for the life of me, remember what we got them for their 2nd birthday! I'll get back to you when I remember!

    2. What is a "must-have" for a 2 year old? My boys love their swing set and anything else they can play with outdoors and climb on. We also have one of those Little Tikes picnic tables and they love that thing. (We actually have it in the house and they love to sit at it and eat, color, paint, etc.)

    3. What is the worst b-day present they received? Geese. Yes, someone bought them two tiny geese for their birthday this year. What a pain that is! Other than that, I can't think of anything terrible they received...just stuff they don't play with and we thought they would like. Our neighbor got them a Step 2 teeter totter and we thought the would like it, but they don't. They've only played on it a couple of times and could care less.

    4. what has been the best b-day present they received. Sand box and swing set.

    1. Clothes. Because they HAVE PLENTY of toys!

    2. With mine, (since they are boys) Large trucks to push around.

    3. They got a few of those Kid Connection brand toys that had a lot of small parts. They have yet to be open to this day. And go figure, on the box it says 4 and up and people still bought them for my 2 yr olds.

    4. Some Curious George toys one was a yellow taxi with George on it, and the other was a train with George on it... you turn them on and press a button and they go around the room, they are so neat!

Glad you started this post!! Mine turn two on Wed and I have been shuffling around for ideas. I was going to get that teeter totter but someone said thier girls don't play with it...I wonder if mine would...

I know for my older two and regards to what the babies have been playing with....they LOVE the cozy coupe cars. I got them a bubble maker for Easter that you just have to push down and the bubbles come out and they love that. I was thinking of getting the babies that trampoline with the bar bc mine both love to jump!

Mine play with the Step 2 Up and Down Roller Coaster A LOT!! So does my 4 yr old! I was thinking of getting the kids a outside playhouse just not sure which one yet. I guess I better get on the ball!!! I feel like since I have two older kids we already have enough toys but still feel the need to buy them something too!!

    HTH!

From 20 months to 30 months my girls were OBSESSED with puzzles. They did their puzzles over and over and over again all afternoon long. They got so they could almost do the 2 year old age recommendation ones with their eyes clothes so I started buying ones for 3 and 4 year olds. Their favorite for a long time was a Seasame Street one that came with 3 levels. The picture is of Big Bird's birthday and the first, smallest puzzel they are preparing, the second one everyone is hiding as big bird arrives and the third level wich is the largest is the party. It says for 3 year olds, but the pieces aren't small enough to swallow, so I don't know why it's rated for 3 year olds. They played with that contiously for months. Just this month they've lost interest in Puzzles.

We got the girls a play kitchen which they love. The gifts they from others...puzzles (melissa & doug), playdough and accessories, books, clothes, build a bears, stroller for dolls, plastic golf clubs, automatic bubble maker (that was from us as well), new cds (laurie berkner), bath toys, stuff like that. There really wasn't anything bad. They use pretty much everything.

    1. kettrike trike which we earned thru pampers gifts to grow. MIL bought the 2nd one.
    2. girls have played almost non stop with their new Melissa and Doug "slicing" veggies. check this link. http://www.dianatoystore.com/woodcutfoodb.html
    3. havent gotten a bad one yet.

at my mom's house over easter we also celebrated 2nd bday early... we got tons of clothes which we needed for summer, rain coats, wish we had an umbrella but they can't operate it yet. got lacing cards Melissa and doug and also some foam ones. great. fairy princess costume with wings. bubbles. animal hospital, bug catchers, doll cribs, M&D puzzles with pieces that double as blocks. the animals can stand up and be little play pieces so it's a multi function puzzle.

    1. We got them random toys. Hannah got dress up/play shoes, a frilly tutu, and all kinds of costume jewelry. Ben got some dinosaurs and a Buzz Lightyear. We don't go too crazy...we leave that to our parents.

    2. Must haves: Sand/Water table, puzzles, playdough, stickers (or Colorforms for the windows), coloring books, megablocks, dress up shoes (these are a hit)...anything for the backyard like those Cozy Coupe Cars. We also love our little wood table for arts/crafts, and they even eat lunch at that table quite often.

    3. Worst: Can't think of anything in particular.

    4. Best present: My inlaws gave them those Take Along Arm Chairs from Pottery Barn Kids. They are awesome, but like having two extra pieces of furniture. But they love to sit in them and watch TV first thing in the morning, or later in the day when I am cooking dinner. Their current fave, Finding Nemo. They also got the kids their own suitcases from Pottery Barn Kids. We love them and have used them a few times when they go to spend the night at my parents' house. They get all excited when they get to pack them and then carry them to the car or up to gramma's front door!

Hi Becky, my boys are 2 a week after yours, but I'm doing an outdoor theme for their birthday. I'm also skipping the big party like I did last year and just having family and a few close family friends -- boy did I make myself insane last year. Anyway, we'll have it in our backyard so they can play with the following:

We also bought them the Step 2 Sand and Water table (while on-sale at TRU :)!!

We are getting them a huge swingset from Costco that they can grow into over the years.

I think we are getting them a little pool -- probably inflatable and one big enough for mommy and/or daddy to plop our butts into though.

I got them some puzzles already - their new favorite thing. I'm also getting them some lacing cards and maybe finger paints to do outside. That is probably about it. We have so much stuff in the house already.

They will probably get money for their savings accounts from the G-parents.

I'm planning on getting their trikes or something for Christmas.

Just enjoy -- they will love pretty much anything they get at this age!

Hi Becky! I got my girls the Fisher Price Rockin' Puppies for Chirstmas. They love them more than anything else they got. The toys can be used inside or outside. Their preschool has lots of them on the playground. I've seen a rocker toy just like them but with Elmo surfing.
