Both DS and DD have reacted to tomato sauce with a horrible, painful, bright red diaper rash. My kids love lasagna, spaghetti, and pizza, but they have gotten rashes 3 times now so I think I need to hold off on tomato sauce. Has anyone else had a problem with tomato sauce? How long should I wait before trying it again?

Do they get this with other acidic foods or just tomato sauce? One of my boys has had reflux and still has issues with acidic foods. If I give him something acidic I try to balance it with something like yogurt.

My DD had this same problem with tomato sauce and other acidic foods (oranges). I would give her and DS pasta with cheese and butter. We gradually reintroduced it into her diet at 21 months and we were fortunate that she was no longer getting rashes with it.

Yep mine have the same issue! It did get better around 22-24 months but they still can't eat a lot of it.

DS sometimes gets rashes around his mouth from kiwi, oranges and pineapple. DD has never had a problem with any food before.

My boys don't have any problems, but I sure do. During this pregnancy, I've had terrible reactions to tomato sauce every since I've been pregnant. Not that it helps since I don't wear a diaper. :)

I don't have much information on food reactions, but if they love pizza....I've started making mine without sauce. Just roll out your crust, put some olive oil and a little bit of garlic on it...bake for 7 mins, then your toppings. I got it from a pampered chef recipe, but super yummy, i prefer it now. Good Luck in your search!

It's probably the acid in the tomatoes; Nate (who has eczema) gets almost burned-looking around the mouth when he eats tomato sauce. If we put Vaseline on his face before he eats, it helps immensely. Since it's a diaper problem for your LOs, you'll probably want to hold off on the tomato sauce for a few months then try again.
