I think my boys are just about done with baby food. While in Italy, they ate a lot of table food-and have always done really well with it. They've had green beans, potatoes, pasta(LOVE IT!), fruit, meat, etc... I fed them some baby food-but they rarely seemed to finish the jar.

So-I am at a loss of what to give them for food-for lunch and dinner). I am no Martha Stewart in the cooking department! All I've done is grilled cheese, quesadilla's, pasta(before they liked it), ground turkey(hated it!), and some soup(open the can, heat it up-an let them pick up the noodles with their fingers). I really don't know what to give them. They love cheerios. They love cheese. I just need ideas on GOOD HEALTHY meals to give them. DH and I are not the best eaters-especially in the fruits/veggies department!

Any ideas? Or is there a sticky I can look at? Or previous thread? I might be :BDH: !! Oh-and theey are 9.5 months old! One has 5 teeth, the other NONE-not that you would know it though!

    Thanks!

There is a sticky in the 1-4 forum about toddler foods that you might be able to get some good ideas from. Also wholesomebabyfood.com has some nice easy recipies for finger foods.

At that age mine were still eating alot of purees, but I was giving them finger foods to practice with. These are some ideas of what we gave:

    meatloaf
    ditalini pasta
    peas
    green beans
    lentil beans
    lima beans
    fresh fruit
    spaghetti
    rotissirie chicken

Wow, I just used to do a lot of mac n cheese and chicken noodle soup! My babies all loved peas and corn. (I just heated up the frozen kind and put a few pieces right on the tray.)

The sky is the limit now! You can offer pretty much anything if it is soft enough and cut up small enough, just avoid choking hazards.

Sometimes if one is asleep and the other one is awake and i'm cooking in the kitchen I will raid my fridge and give them a taste of various things..... salami, coconut milk, bing cherries... (yes I eat a variety ). Those rice cakes they are bland but good to munch on.

    Have fun.

Agreed! As long as its soft and small, let them go to town! DH and I eat better now because we have to make good food for the girlies. There are lots of easy things that you can make big batches of to each for awhile. Crockpot meals are great because things get nice and mushy, or baked chicken, or lasagna, or tuna noodle casserole, or meatloaf, etc etc etc. There are LOTS of easy quick things to make. The girls love mac & cheese, kiddie quesadillas (just a burrito shell in microwave to melt some cheddar cheese- fold and cut!), and baked potatoes (also in the microwave). This and a veggie is a great lunch.

My latest discovery that really helps are those pre-cooked chicken and turkey cutlets you get in the meat dept. They are SO GOOD and the babies like them too. I just dice them up really small and put them on their tray and they gobble them up. I also like the freeze dried fruit - nutritious and easy. I've been cutting up green beans and fruit, but it is difficult to find the fruit in no syrup and some veggies are hard to find without salt added. We also like toast in the morning :) (myself included) and DD sucks the butter off and then eats them. Very cute!

HTH! I really like getting new ideas too. I feel like I'm walking through the grocery store with new eyes figuring out what they will be able to eat and might like. I'm working on improving our diet too.

I, like the OP am not a Martha Stewart, but I have discovered some things they enjoy. Hamburgers- with just bread, cheese and meat - they LOVE it. (broken into small pieces, of course) They also like meat loaf, luncheon meat, and cheese.

Mine also love cantelope and watermelon. You can put that already sliced at the store.

I am considering taking them to a Japense Steakhouse in a day or two and letting them try out the rice. yum yum

    ummmm...

We have nutrigrain bars, cream of wheat, toast with jam, bagels (all cut up small!), dried fruit, raisins, cheerios, crackers, grapes (cut up really small), bananas, go-gurts, green beans, peas, squash, potatoes, tomatoes, mac n cheese, spaghetti, pasta...
    on and on

make sure to cut things small til they get the hang of something new. Good luck!
