they want nothing but cereal, applesauce and they throw in requests for cookies every once in a while...TRUST ME!!! I don't give in to their demands...I have always given them a healthy meal, and this past week, they've refused every dinner and have gone to bed hungry...this is not new food...this is the same stuff I feed them (roast chicken, pork, ham) and they don't even like their Ketchup anymore....OR they will lick up the Ketchup and leave the rest...

I don't know what to do and I wonder if anyone else is having these issues...???

I am having the same issues. No afternoon snack and they will still totally refuse all dinner offerings. I'm troubled by it too. I do know this much--as soon as we figure it out, it will be over! Sorry I don't have any good advice.

I have my girls help decide what is for dinner and then have them help us cook it. I will give two options to choose from. I have them help measure and dump stuff, stir things, they love tearing up lettuce for our salads. If we have fried potatoes, I have them cut up the cooked potatoes with butter knifes. The also love to scoop out their applesauce and stir their medicine into it. We have never had were they won't eat. We have times where they don't eat as much. They have a medical condition where they must eat...so if your kids were mine, I would be freaking out :) We had some nights where they would eat like three bites and want down. At that time, it was winter and we had their tricycles in the house so as they rode around the circle in our house, they would stop for gas "fill ups" and get a bite of food everytime they came around. We had clean plates every night. We still do fill ups if they have nights where I don't think they ate enough.

Sounds like my house. I read this site given to me by a dear friend and it helped me tremendously understand toddler eating habits. I talked it over with my pedi and she agreed with what I read.

They might need to change. We get in ruts all the time! They want noodles or hot dogs stuff with NO nutritional value and then all of a sudden they are eating my green beans off my plate!

Maybe change it up a little and give them a few things to choose from? Sounds like you have been doing really well to this point! I am in NO position to give food advice, but wanted to give support~

I have a book by Annabel Karmell which I love. It started with their first feeding and has sections through 5 years old. Here is her web site

That wholesometoddlerfood site is a real shocker. It says that serving sizes for a 2 year old is 2 tablespoons of fruit or a quarter of a piece of bread. I can't believe it. So a banana would be like 15 servings?? And a sandwich would be 8 servings of grains? Could that really be true? It would certainly make me feel a lot better but .....

thanks for the ideas! I haven't had a chance to go through that food toddler site - but really want to!
I constantly try different things...its still amazes me how much I throw away - and even more that they have NO interest in what my husband and I are eating...whether its the same or totally different...I will keep checking back here though for ideas...

I wonder if there is a "toddler food whisperer?!?!" Wouldn't that be great? have them come to your house for a week and get your kids to eat everything?!?!? WOWOW what a great idea!!!! Imagine how much money you could make!! LOL

My twins went through a similar period. The solution for me was giving them their milk AFTER the meal instead of together with the meal. It turned out they were getting full on liquid calories from milk.

My son hasn't eaten dinner the past two nights and before that it was only really a few bites here and there. He takes one look at our food and says I don't want it. He drinks his milk usually but that's it. He has even helped us cook our meals and even when helping will say I don't want it. It's very frustrating especially since he used to be a good eater (never ate vegtables but loved his meats) and now he won't eat anything he used to love like mashed potatos and even mac and cheese. He does eat a good breakfast and lunch but I really don't like sending him to bed without eating but I am not going to give him snacks either. He doesn't even care anymore that his sisters get to have a cookie or ice cream at the end of the night and he doesn't. I really hope he starts eating again soon. I am going to have to check out those web sites when I get a chance too.
