Flying with Two Lap Babies

My DH and I just returned from a trip to FL with our twins. We had two flights each way. Everything went really well. The tips on this site worked great. We went through security at smaller airports and had no problems.

A couple tips we discovered that I hadn't read anywhere and wanted to pass on:

If you are flying and carrying your babies on your laps, check before boarding about seating arrangements. Some planes do not have enough oxygen masks in each row for 2 lap babies. The airline will rearrange your seats and it's easier to do before you board. If you can pick your seats when you book, pick seats in rows next to each other or across the aisle. We flew on a 757 and there was only one extra mask on each side of the aisle in each row. On one flight, we were across the aisle from each other. This worked well. On a regional jet, we had to be on the right side of the plane to have one extra mask per row. We were in adjacent rows and that worked well. Something you hopefully don't need, but definitely want.

Delta lets you gate check your stroller and carseats and they do NOT count as part of your carry on baggage or checked baggage. This was very helpful. We didn't want to arrive at our destination without our carseats. The airline misdirected our checked luggage on the way there. Luckily we had everything we needed in our carry ons. I think my underwear went to Paris :p . I'm kinda bummed about that because I've never been.

    Hope these tips help.

This happened to us also last summer! We didn't get our luggage OR carseats for 2 days! I am not sure where my underwear went, but it wasn't anything exciting like Paris!

Those are great tips, I agree completely! Where in FL did you go?

I'm glad you had a good trip!

I was told the same thing when we flew in December, no more than 4 people could be in a row (of 3 seats) because of oxygen mask limitations. Thanks for the reminder!

Great tips! Each time we've flown with the girls DH and I have been across the aisle from each other. This is good because one or both of us had to get up several times during each flight to walk a baby

Thanks for the tips. We are flying next month for the first time. What is the best way to get through security? I was planning on taking the snap and go with the carseats. Do you know if you have to take the carseats off and put them through the x-ray machine?

We wore the girls in Bjorns and were able to walk with them in the Bjorn thru security. I'm pretty sure you will have to send the carseats and the sng (folded) thru security separately so its nice to have free hands to fold everything up. Leave yourself plenty of time and don't worry about the people around you if it takes you a little while to get thru screening. For diaper bags use backpacks! Keep your sense of humor and enjoy your trip!

We went to Arcadia. FL and flew into the Sarasota Airport. It was very nice.

We took our jogging stroller and strapped the car seats to the back for moving around the airport. We had to take them off to go through the x-ray machine. They checked the stroller over separately. We also used a hiking backpack and my husband's laptop bag as our carryons. I stowed things in the outside pockets of the backpack that we would definitely need easy access to and stored extra clothes and things we'd need later or wouldn't need on the plane inside. We use powdered formula, so I measured it out into bottles and then we just had to add water. We put the bottles and other things we would need on the plane in the computer bag. That fit under the seat and was easily accessible.

Our twins also wear different size diapers, so I put diapers and wipes for each in resealable plastic bags along with a color-coded burp cloth. That way I could easily see which diapers were for which baby. At the Atlanta airport, they had a changing table with a sink right there. It was great.

Thank you for posting this. We are flying from Oregon to Kansas in two weeks. I'm wondering about all of these things too. We were going to buy them seats, but then prices went through the roof! We are hoping that the in-laws will be able to borrow carseats and strollers, but if not do we just check all of that? I'd be so sad if something happened to them.
