    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has tried to gate check a BOB jogging stroller? We are going on our first airplane trip and I would really like to bring our BOB stroller for our trip. I have a silly fear that we will get to the gate and they will refuse to check such a large stroller. Any experience with this?

I haven't done it myself, but I was wondering if you are really going to need such a large stroller at your destination?? If not, I'd by a cheap SBS umbrella stroller, or take two small umbrella stroller's. Or maybe even just check your BOB as luggage if you are going to need it and use the smaller stroller's for in the airport :)

We used our Combi SBS when we flew last January and it was just the right size, and was easy to carry down the steps when we gate checked it. I don't have a Bob so I don't know how large/heavy it is when you fold it up, would be it be difficult to get thru a small doorway at the end of the jetway and down the stairs for them to put it underneath?

Is it a BOB double stroller or a single? You're technically only supposed to gate-check strollers that you are using in the airport, and I think you'll have trouble maneuvering a BOB double stroller through the airport. And how would you get it through security? It's supposed to go through the x-ray machine, but a BOB double stroller won't fold small enough to fit - at least mine won't.

All airlines have different polices about weather you are able to gate check such a large stroller. So when you check in at the counter show them your stroller and just ask them if you can take that all the way to the gate. just make sure you have a plan b just in case they say that it has to be checked at the counter. I have travelled with my bob stroller, but we checked it at the ticket counter. Then used our Ergo's to carry the boys through the airport, but now that they are bigger we just let them walk and get some energy out.

Your post inspired me to re-check the TSA rules on strollers (just in case I ever want to travel with my big stroller). They will visually inspect it if it won't fit through the x-ray. But I'd still worry about narrow doorways and jetways in the airport.

Thanks for the information. We would have definitely used our BOB because we are headed to Kauai and there are lots of trails and such. The smaller stroller will be great in the airport but not too useful for the rest of the trip. Twins are too big to be carried now and probably would not last too long on a hike walking. This will definitely change our plans. :-( Oh well. Thanks for all the great advice! It is not like we will have too much trouble finding other things to do.

If there's going to be two of you at the airport, buy a couple of small umbrella strollers. You'll get your use out of them down the road I'm sure, and if not, they only cost like $15-20, cheaper if you find used ones :) Then you can check your bob as luggage, and still be able to use it, but not have to lug it thru the airport ;)
