Okay, so I seriously need some second and third opinions, here is the deal. My DH's birthday is this saturday. i have spent a few birthdays away from him through the years, while in California. We live in DC and are now in CA visiting with my family again. I didn't book a return flight because I didn't know when my mother would be able to fly back out with us, but I told him we would be home for his birthday. Well, we have been here a week, since Saturday, but on Monday everyone in this house 8 people came down with a nasty virus that causes diarrhea and vomiting, including my DS's. They have had diarrhea for over a week, and lost a little weight. The problem is my DH wants us home by Saturday for his birthday, which means I will have to fly overnight by myself, (6hrs)and I don't even know if the diarrhea is over, and is their immune system strong enough to fend this off agian, since we know we got it from the plane (a baby on board had the same thing and my flight companion caught it too). My question is what would you do, if we wait, we won't leave for another week, and my DH will be terribly upset, he has had such a hard year and wants nothing more than to be with his sons (and me too I guess). I should add that my trips to California are always a sore spot because I ALWAYS stay longer than I say I will.

That's a toughie. How come you would have to stay another week? I would wait though until your babes can handle the ride. I would just tell your husband that your babies' health has to be number one in this matter.

I agree with the PP...you don't want to take any chances of your little ones getting more sick.

I agree...I would wait. My husband would NEVER want me to fly with my twins not feeling well....even if he was away from us on his birthday or any other event. Plus, if you are planning on flying, I would check, but I don't believe you can fly by yourself with two babies. I believe you have to have one parent per baby. At least with the airlines my friend flew on that is what she was told.

Brockgirl - you can fly with two babies. I just flew from Seattle to Denver alone with our twin 4 month olds ( one on my lap, one in a car seat ) and a 3 1/2 year old. This was last Sunday so its very recent that you are allowed.

I wouldnt fly if your little ones arent over the sickness ( which by the way me and my kids all had the same this a week before last when we were visiting my parents....i feel for ya! )

    Thanks everyone.
I took them for a checkup and they are doing better, DS vomited yesterday again, which made me nervous, but the diarrhea has stopped. But, to add insult to injury my period returned, I am still nursing so it just seems to be one of those times when the earth is aligning to tell me a point. Guess a sad daddy will be looming this weekend.

If the babies are dehydrated, I would go ahead and fly home. I flew alone with the babies at 5.5 months and 8.5 months and it wasn't difficult at all. I assume you will be getting a direct flight since it is Cali to DC? I had a layover both times and just used my double stroller to cart the babies between gates and carried the carseats in bags on my back with the diaper bag under the stroller. If the babies had an ear infection or something more serious than diarrehea then I would advocate waiting but their bug is basically a stomach issue and it isn't likely they are going to get more sick on the plane flight. They sound like they're getting better and are past the worst of it. If they don't throw up and get better today, personally, I would book the flight. Daddy is important too. If you do fly, take lots of antibacterial wipes to clean off everything around your seating area, Purell to wash your hands everytime you touch the babies, and buy a seat for everyone so the babies can sleep in their carseats during the flight.
