In January we plan on taking our babies to Ontario (from BC) to see the in-laws and DH's side of the family. They will be 9 months old at that point

Any tips/suggestions from anyone who has travelled with 2 babies?

    Thanks!

    1. You really really really want a nonstop flight.
    2. Buy seats for both of them and use their car seats. It is both safer and more comfortable for them. And it gives you a safe place to put both of them during the flight when you need your hands free.
    3. If you bottle feed, bring more milk/formula than you expect them to eat. Flying is dehydrating and they will probably want to drink more during the flight.
    4. Don't bother with solids during the flight, except for something simple like cheerios. It won't kill them to miss a solid meal and it is a sanity saver.
    5. When you go through security, one of you takes the babies and one deals with the bags. Meet up on the other side.

    Don't do it!!!!!

Nah-I'm just kidding! We flew to Italy when the boys were nine months old. From the time we left our house to get to the airport, until we reached our destination in Italy-was 24 hours. I kid you not. The plane was delayed from Boston, so we missed our connecting flight in Rome, to which we were stuck in the Rome airport for a good 5, 6 hours or so. Yeah-it was glorious. Oh-and we found out Nicholas got carsick as well.... <_<

In any case-it wasn't that bad at all. Really. There were four adults to two kids-so totally manageable. We got there early to get the bulkhead seating-I suggest that. It's where they can put a little bed for the baby-and there is more leg room too. We didn't take carseats with us as we were going to borrow some in Italy. And we just bought two cheap single strollers and used those. We didn't want our double stroller to get ruined while we were there or on the flight.

We had two diaper bags-one with clothes, diapers, wipes, food, etc. The other with toys and snacks. You most likely will not be able to sit together due to not having enough oxygen masks, so make sure you each have a diaper bag with the essentials in it. I brought lots of snack type food. I had the baby food, tried it, but in the end I didn't worry about it. I had the bottles all made up with water, the formula premeasured out, so all I had to do was shake it up. Bring books, toys(preferably quiet ones...lol), and maybe even some non traditional toys possibly-to help keep them entertained.

Our flight on the way there was pretty much bedtime. We left Boston around 6:30/7pm. We arrived in Rome around 9:30am which was really 3:30 am our time. The flight back home was around 6 am Italy time(midnight our time), and we landed in Boston around 1pm. That was a long flight! LOL! But there were six adults on that one! LOL!

Basically-have no expectations-and nothing can go wrong!! Expect the worst, but hope for the best. My boys really did awesome on the trip. Considering everything we went through, they were awesome. Us adults were the ones that were going crazy. I am however, NOT looking forward to possibly doing this again in the spring/summer.

    GOOD LUCK!

Fly your family to BC instead

Just kidding. We flew from Calgary to Ontario with 7 month olds. Definitely take two stocked diaper bags as handing things across the aisle is really, really difficult. If you're on formula get the pre-made cans of it so you don't have to worry about heating it or anything. Have a bjorn or ergo with you so you have free hands while they're checking the stroller and stuff. Change diapers right before you get on the plane and then try to stick it out unless there's a smelly one... put overnights on them. Leave the kiddos in their footed pyjamas so they're nice and comfortable.

Both westjet and air canada have back of the seat TV and our kids got thoroughly addicted to treehouse during the 4 hr flight!

Thanks!!! His parents hav e flown a couple times to us, so now it is our turn to see the rest of the family!!!! We are not taking car seats or strollers because his brother has 3 kids (one just under 2 yrs) so we are using their stuff when we get there. Good idea about the two bags, one for each of us so no passing stuff between isles!! The flight should be barely 5 hrs. Just worried about taking off and landing. We hope they are in good moods because they are generally happy babies anyway....
This will test us for our real trip (thinking Mexico or Hawaii) in March!! Toronto in January just doesn't cut it!!

I took 6 mo old to VA from Las VEgas by myself and it was great. Babies do better than you think. Know that you can't sit by your DH b/c of air bags, quite a pain, but nothign you can do about it. A couple times I did fly with DH a nice person blocked out the middle seat even though we didn't purchase so the 4 of us could all sit together. It was great. If the flight isn't full you could ask about that. Take a change of clothes for babies adn you incase of emergency ( I just took a shirt) several diapers. I loaded first so we could get settled without being cramped. As you go through security line the handicapped line is also for families with shorter wait and easier to deal wtih strollers and bags. You can take liquids for them through security they will just check everything. We always took birth certificates even though they weren't always looked at. They won't let you have them in sling/bjorn carrier during take off and landing so be prepared for that if you use one.

we flew when the kids were 14mo old the 1st time and got lucky and there were seats available for them for FREE! I kinda thought that they would be available b/c I kept checking online ahead of time - I would try to "buy" 6 seats on our flights and they'd always be available, so I figured there were at least 6 seats avail! anyway, for a 5 hr flight I would definitely bring their infant seats and snap & go stroller. you can gate check it all if you need, but if you get the lucky chance for them to have seats you have their carriers with you.

we had a great trip with ours at 14 months... it was the 26 mo. trip that was the trip from hell! ugh!!
