My babies have a fluid discordance right now, although both babies fluids are still within normal levels, however A has a lot more fluid then B. I know this can be the first sign of the TTTS, but don't know if this can sometimes happen in twin pregnancy and it NOT be TTTS starting. So, I was just wondering, did your twins ever have a fluid discordance at all? Dopplers came back great, blood flow to the babies looks good. Megan(A) is now a bit bigger then Molly(B) she weighed 1lb 9oz and Molly weighed 1lb 8oz. Next scan is on July 14th with dopplers, growth and fluid check.

yup, it's possible to have fluid discrepancies unrelated to TTTS - my baby B suddenly had extra fluid at my 27 week u/s. they monitored us closely that week (i think i had 3 u/s plus 2 NSTs), checking cord flow, bladders & other organs, etc. they talked to us about the possibility of developing TTTS and that we may need to fly to Toronto for in utero surgery for the girls but since we were almost 28 weeks they also talked about the possibility of just delivering the girls if it did develop into TTTS. it was a scary time. but other than the sudden increase in fluid, nothing else changed - baby A's fluid didn't go down at all (which was something they were really concerned about), baby B's just stayed high (for the rest of the pregnancy). my baby B was also born 1.5 lbs bigger than her sister.

My boys only had a fluid discrepancy...but it did qualify as stage 1. It stayed that way, and actually got better with boost and modified bed rest. I recommend that you start the boost and take it easy..just as a precaution. I would also move up your scan to next week. TTTS can progress quickly and you can never be too careful.

Thank you for responding ladies! I am trying to take it easy, but it is difficult as we have a 5 and a almost 2 year old, no family here, and DH has been working long hours this week. I did set up a housecleaner to come once a week to mop and clean for me, she will start next week.

I do have a fetal echo being done next week, but I don't think they look at fluids and such, I am assuming in anything is wrong they will tell me, and then my growth, doppler and fluid check the week after. I really can't change that one any sooner.

Being that the dopplers came back totally normal despite the discordance, wouldn't if they were starting TTTS something be seen on the dopplers, or would that start later?

They were both the same, but B's fluid did go down some, but is still within normal range, and A's went up, but is still withing normal range. Being that I will be 26 weeks tomorrow, I am assuming that if it is TTTS starting, we would be a milder case of it?? I know the cut off for surgury is 26weeks.

MIss_bossy - What gestation did you have your twins at?

TandC - I do have boost, and have been having them here and there, eating a lot of cottage cheese for protein. Can you share more of your experience with me. Did you have to be in the hospital at all before they were born? How big of a discordance was noticed?? What gestation did they notice a discordance. Any sx that you had besides what the babies showed? My hands were swelling at the start of the week, and my BP went up some, but one night in the hospital and things went back to normal. I got to go home with "Take it easy" orders, no more lifting and stuff(so hard with a toddler) and doing the bi weekly dopplers, fluid and growth checks. I guess the next scan will be very telling. How much boost did you drink?

my girls were born at 34w1d & spend 13 days in the NICU (Danika, my baby B, was on CPAP for about 18 hours). other than that though, they were just feeding & growing. :good:

I had very large fluid discepencies (sp?) for a while before my twins started with other problems. They were diagnosed with TTTS just based on their fluid. I had 3 amniotic fluid reductions to help with the fluid. Good luck!!
