At our 6mo check up the pedi recommended flu vaccines for the boys in about a month. Are you planning to vaccinate your kiddos?

I hate to give them unnecessary shots. And I personally don't have the best track record with the flu vaccine (no reaction, just not effective for me.) Then again, I don't want them to come down with a nasty flu that we could have potentially have prevented. With the boys in daycare it seems inevitable so I am leaning towards doing it.

And that brings me to my second question. Are you and your husband planning to get vaccinated? If we get shots for the boys I think it only logical that we get vaccinated, too. I would hate for us to catch some crud and bring it home to them.

I'm having mine vaccinated... I know babies died from the flu last year, so I'm not risking it...

I've never ever had the flu personally, but I guess we should get vaccinated too...

i will definitely be having my girls get the flu vaccine, as will i and everyone in my family. working in the medical field, i'm often exposed to the flu during the winter and dont need my girls getting sick from my job. last flu season, i got the flu vaccine and still caught the flu from one of my patients while i was 17 wks pregnant. it was horrible and i was worried sick, running high fevers, and felt like i was dying, but hopefully they'll get the vaccine right this year. at least it protects against some strains!

Yep, ours will be vaccinated along w/ anyone that wants to spend time w/ them. Being that they were born early & are also at risk for RSV, we aren't taking any chances. If a visitor wants to come over & hasn't got the flu shot, they will have to wait until April. It isn't worth my babies' lives.

I totally recommend the flu shot for as long as they'll let your child have it. I'll definitely get all my kiddos vaccinated this year. Of course, I always get one too. That may have something to do with it!!

Mine have gotten it every winter so far, and will again this year. I did not get mine last winter, and got the flu, so I will definitely get mine too. I was so miserably sick the entire week of Easter and their birthday. :(

i vaxed us all last year and we all got a stomach bug but no flu--i think thats a viral bug? the flu shot cant prevent it
that said i do get the shots for our family; so far (knock on wood) the boys have never had the flu just colds.

Nope. I just stock up on really good supplements and vitamins for the kids. And we avoid Halloween (most of the time and limit the candy when we do go) cause of the sugar. I'm so much better with their diets in the wintertime cause I want their immune systems on high alert.

I'm glad you posted this, I was debating not getting the flu shots for the babies this year as well. I had the flu shot only one time and I had a terrible reaction to it, I was sicker than a dog for about a week, way worse than any flu I've ever had.

I'm not all about giving uncessary shots/medications to the babies, but I waffle back and forth about the necessity of the flu shot. If that particular strain of the flu becomes rampant then yes it is necessary but what if it's a different strain of the flu that takes over and then they aren't protected anyway.

Too many decisions. I'll be interested to hear others responses.

Same here. Our Peds office will vaccinate the parents as well.

I got the flu vaccine while pregnant with the boys, we all got it last year and I plan for us all to get it this year (I'm going to try to get mine early so baby can have some advantage from it as she will be too young to get the vaccine this year). Babies can die from it, and because mine have reactive airway and have previously each been hospitalized from "colds" and lung problems, I won't risk the flu (and yes, I know the vaccine isn't perfect but if it covers the strain, great, if not...what have you really lost). But I understand people don't get vaccinated...it's every person's choice. Since my kiddos in daycare and we take out in public often, I, personally, feel more comfortable if they've had it.

I also don't like necessary shots and have Dax on a delayed vax schedule but we all get the flu shot. Around here, it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll catch it if you don't have the vax. We'll have a new baby in Dec. as well and she'll need the protection from having the rest of us vaccinated.

I got vaccinated when I was pregnant but I made sure it was the mercury-free kind. I do want the boys to get the mercury free flu shot this year but Jack had an allergic reaction to eggs and the flu vaccination contains eggs in them so I will see what the Dr. says.

My kids have always been in daycare -- they were too young to get vaccinated their first year (born in November, started daycare in January), but we have all been vaccinated both years since then, and will be again this year.

FWIW, we have done all other vaxes on schedule too -- we're just vax-happy people. ;)

ALWAYS! I work in a hospital so I have to. But Id rather have them all done as well cause you never know. Its not 100% but its better than nothing and having one of the kids be a part of the numbers.
