I had my flu shot this morning at my OB's suggestion-
I was just curious what other doctors were suggesting.

It's strongly recommended to get the flu shot when you're pregnant.

I already have a cold, when do they tell you to get the shot?

My doctor told me to get one and DH to get one too so that he doesn't expose the babies when they are born. I asked for thermisol free, but they didn't have any. The doctor said the risk of the flu is much higher than the risk of problems from the vac.

Trouble Squared~ A cold shouldn't be a problem (they used to say it was, but now I've heard it isn't anymore). You should get the shot as soon as possible since we are now in flu season. I got mine at 20 weeks, I think.

My son and I had ours 3 weeks ago. It is highly recommended if you are pregnant to get one. DH had Guillian Barre Syndrome 13 years ago, so he didn't get one, otherwise I would have made him get one too.

My doctor strongly recommended that I get one. Since I was in the 3rd tri, she said my immunity would partially carry over to the babies too. And DH (or anyone else who will be caring for the babies) should get one too.

Oh, I don't expect people to look it up. It has been a tough day at work with the cold and all, your response to me is the highpoint of my day! How sad. I am headed home to bed now! YEAY!

It's posted at my OB's office that they recommend all their pregnant patients get the flu shot. I will not be getting it. I've never had the flu before and have rarely been sick in my life. I don't want any unnecessary shots (in my opinion)

My dh went to our family dr. for a refill on his prescription and she told him he should get it because he has a pregnant wife at home. He accepted and had his done but I will definitely not be getting one, nor will my 5 year old.

My doctor hasn't mentioned it. If he doesn't mention it - I'm not getting it. I would NEVER get the kind w/ thimerisol in it if I was pregnant. Luckily, in CA pregnant women get thimerisol free kind.

I am pretty sure mine was NOT thermisol free-is that going to hurt the babies? My doctor did not tell me to ask for a certain kind of shot and I had it done at my office for free. Great, now I am worried!

The flu shot is considered safe for pregnant women, even if it is preserved with thimerosal. Your babies would be a much greater risk if you actually got influenza than from the tiny bit of preservative in the vaccine. There's no need to worry.

And besides, you can't change the fact that you already got the vaccine, so there's no point worrying about it!

Our Dr. has requested that all family memebers....get the vaccine....We have done so...Me, DH, 2 teenage sons, MIL, and FIL....My parents are being stubborn...not wanting to get it...even though they get sick every year without fail...and they are both at high risk....so I told them that if they don't get the vaccine, then we will see them in April. :p They think that I am joking...they are in for a rude awakening! My mom works in a middle school with over 1000 kids a day...and then she also work in a daycare center with 100 snotty nose kids! so she really should reconsider it....and my dad is a heart patient and a diabetic...I can't believe his Dr. doesn't insisit!

    Take care,

    Missy

As others have said, pregnant women are one of the "high risk groups" and it's highly recommended for them to get a flu shot. I've gotten it as soon as it was available for both pregnancies. :)

I received mine on Friday and my DH and sons will be getting theirs on Tuesday. My dh got influenza A two winters ago and it was MISERABLE... he said he felt like death and I have never seen him laid up like that.

The concern with Thimerosol is the link with Autism. It was taken out of children's vaccinations, and some states took it out of the flu shots for pregnant women.

My OB suggested that everyone in the house get one, even people who may be coming to stay with us for a while to help with the babies. My DH of course refuses...stubborn man. I also got the preservative free one, I'm not really sure what the difference is, but they said that it would be better for me.

nope - I'm diabetic, went through a pregnancy through the winter and neither the OB, Peri, family doc or endocrinologist said anything about it or even recommended it...I've never had a flu shot and refuse to get one....every time my father gets a flu shot - guess what...he gets the flu - I've never had the flu...

Mine strongly recommended it. I got, my husband, my daughter, and anyone that wanted to come into contact with the boys when they were born had to have one.

I was told at my 20w appt., in no uncertain terms, to get the flu shot. Both DH and I got them a couple weeks ago.
