my twins are one and have been getting colds and viruses a lot this season. i think i wan them to get the flu shot since i read in parenting magazine (or parents magazine, not sure which) that lots of babies end up in the hospital with flu and it can be fatal. what do u think of this?

My boys are 2 and got their flu shot on Nov. 1st. They will get the shot until it is no longer recommended by their Pedi. If your children are prone to getting sick I would think it would be in their best interest to get the flu shot if you are worried.

We got the flu shot last year and they still got sick, but who knows if they would have been sicker without it?

Here in Mexico they give it for free to 6 months-2 years 11 months and senior citizens, since we are 3 now, we didn't get it this year and so far they are not more or less sick than other years. So who knows?

I always get them for myself and my kids. None of us have ever had any negative side effects. In my mind, it can't hurt. Fortunately, we have never had the flu or many colds/viruses. I don't know if that's luck or if the shot helped. Either way, I will continue getting them.

It was Parents magazine. I saw that too. We got ours and have had some running noses and cough but nothing too horrible yet! I get one, my DH and the kids!

My kids and I all got our flu shots. My husband refuses. They get a flu shot every year and we haven't had an bad reactions to it.

We all have gotten one and did as well last year. If your kids go to daycare, I would highly recommend it. THere are a lot of germs passed. I think it is apersonal decision though.

We all get one in our family (kids in daycare, plus DH works at a university, which is germ central). The girls got it last year when they were 10 months old. No side effects and none of us have had the flu, though who knows if that's just random. I don't have a problem with vaxes in general, so I will do it if the CDC recommends it.

We all got one...expecting to deliver during the height of cold and Flu season. The peri insisted on it...that anyone that is going to be in close contact with the babies to have it. My parents are very involved and were stubborn about it...but when I told them we'd see them in April they saw the error in their ways! My mom works with over 1000 children a day...and catches everything! My dad is a heart patient and a diabetic...so he needs it anyway!

you are the only one that can make that decision...but I do know a couple that lost their precious daughter when she was 1 year and 10 days old to the FLU! that was enough for me!

    take care,

    Missy

It is a personal choice. I am still not sure if we did the right thing but the pedi suggested it, so we went ahead and did it. And I got one too. Dh somehow got out of it and still has not gone.

We got flu shots for the girls last year and again this year. The only bad thing about getting the shot for the first time is they have to have a booster shot (or at least mine did last year). However, this year they only had to get one shot. I am a teacher and have a son in elementary school so I know that I bring home yuk on my clothes. I wanted to protect them from whatever I or my son may bring home.

We all got the flu shots yesterday & the babies will need a booster in 4 weeks. I hate giving them shots but the flu can be really serious at their age & with all the other kids around here they have a pretty good chance of being exposed.
