What do you doing when your baby wont stay strapped in on the changing table? They wiggle out of the strap and it's scarring me to death. Do you give up and change on the floor?

Ours are only 8 months old, but I've had some success with keeping a stash of toys near the changing table. They only get to see these toys when they're getting their diaper changed. Right now their favorite changing "toy" is their hair brush.

I may be a bad mom, but frankly, I find the changing strap totally useless, unless they just want to chew on it (then it's useful).

Odd, unusual and exciting toys may help or maybe a mobile?? I've never owned a changing table, so I'm probably not really any help. If you do feel like it's unsafe to have them up there, then changing them on a more stable surface would be a good idea. I change my guys on my bed, that way I don't have to bed over as far.

I posted a similar thread a while ago...we had the same problem except mine were standing, too. We tried all sorts of toys, books, tupperware with snacks inside (for them to shake & try to figure out how to open), etc. and they worked for a little while. Now mine are so squirmy that we have succumbed to changing while they stand. It take a bit of practice at first, but it's not so bad now. In fact...it makes changing them in public places easier because I don't need a changing table. :)

I took the mobile off the crib (the wind up one that matches their bedding) and hooked it to the changing table. It has helped a bit. Usually I give them something to hold on to, like an empty bottle of saline spray. Anything to distract them! Sometimes changing a diaper is like wrestling an alligator!! :D I found this mobliethat I think is supposed to be made for changing tables. HTH!!!

My son was a crazy boy on the changing table. We started using the strap and it's helped. But what's helped most of all... he loves looking and holding the vasoline tube or butt paste tube. I have tried toys... and that works okay. Watches work well. Good luck! It's tough!
