I just got this and some furniture for the girls. (I got two of the baby furniture sets and ordered an extra family from the Mattel website so there will be 2 baby girls!) Thinking about giving it to them for their 2nd bday here in a few days, or waiting for Christmas. Anyone's girls have it and what age did they get it? Did they enjoy it?

I got it for my daughter for Christmas - she was 21 mos at the time. She loved it then and still plays with it today. I've been hesitating getting her a new and bigger doll house because she still uses this one. My son plays with it too. It's been one of my favorite toys - keeps them entertained, and it's good quality with larger pieces. I hate some of those cheapie plastic toys that there is so much of these days. I got my daughter the Disney Princess Castle for Christmas this year, and I'm so disappointed in the quality. The Fisher Price My First Dollhouse was a much better buy.

I thought about waiting a year or so and getting the Loving Family one - the huge one with lots of rooms with furniture. First it's so expensive, and second, everything is pretty fancy, like upper class people live there. I know it's pretend, but we're lower-middle class and our stuff doesn't look like that. I don't want them to wish, or expect that's what they need to have later on. Maybe I think too much about it. But, I'm excited for the My First Dollhouse...

We got the most basic house and doll set ( b/g twins) for the girls when they were 2.5 (I put away the small pieces). BUT I got a ton of used older furniture and extra dolls on ebay/craiglist for very little $ ( ebay prices swing GREATLY--you have to look for good deals, some of them are asking a crazy amount for collector pieces. I got a lot more stuff on craigslist, which too- took time but was worth it)

They STILL play with it today (at 5.5) at least once a week. If they break (and they have) some furniture, it is fine since it was inexpensive and we got a lot of it! The older style people are nice too....we have two toddler/preschool type girls that look like G/G twins (one blonde and one brown haired) that they love! They used to make the people/furniture a bit more 'sturdy' and harder to break- they also do not have batteries, make noise, or light up!

I like that we also got an ethnically diverse group of people, older furniture (sturdier) that really is a good variety (we have cribs, several types of beds, a few tables, different chairs, a car (that does NOT make noise),animals, simple tub, etc), and it is BIG enough that they can both play.

We almost got the 1st dollhouse set, but were worried that it as smaller and did not have the big variety of furniture that they would use as they got older.

My girls could have cared less that it was used at that age (still dont at this age) and I got A LOT more for my money that if I bought it off the shelf.
