HI - A nurse called us today and said our First Tri Screening came back with some risk for the chromosome 13 and 18. She said that there is a less then 1% chance that there is a problem but that we are in the 'risk' catagory. I called my husband and started bawling - It is so hard to think something could be wrong. On top of that we have momo twins. Has anyone else had this result with the First Tri Screening.

    Thank You fo your help.

BIG HUGS! There are many many false positives with twins pregnancies. Try to take a deep breath and realize the statistics are in your favor. I know that is a lot easier said than done but chances are very very slim there is a problem. Keep us posted!

Less than 1% chance sounds like nothing to me....I got a positive result on this test for a Neural Tube Defect such as spinabifida due to high levels of the Alpha-fetoprotein being produced....I went for more testing and an ultrasound and that is when we found out we are having twins! The high level was due to two babies in there!!....

Like I said 1% is very small. Plus those screenings are not diagnostic. I am sure everything will be fine, stay positive...but I know how hard that can be! I was a mess for the week before I went for more testing!

You and ur babies are in my prayers!

sounds like a pretty low risk to me - did you have triple screen and nuchal? my friend had a high chance of downs with her son and he ended up being fine. you just never know. you can always do the amnio to know for sure. what was the risk 1 in how much?

Many docs won't even do these tests with twins because they are completely inaccurate as they measure as if it were one baby. I think everything is fine. Hard not to be emotional though... hugs :hug99:

I agree with Liesel ~ the tests are not very accurate with twins. I did have the nuchal, but the dr. told me that the results could go either way....and not to focus on the test results.
    Stay positive!! :hug99:

I didn't do any of these tests because they are so inaccurate with twins. I know myself I would be freaking out over less than 1% just like you when really that is so low and I am sure everything will probably be ok.. :hug99:

Since the results of the b/w isn't accurate with multiples (can't just divide the protein level by two), we decided just to do the u/s measuring the nucal folds and look for any markers of possible problems.

Sorry the results scared you, but definitely take it with a grain of salt since you're results can be skewed!

    *hugs*

dont be too scared. mine came back bad too, those tests are so unreliable with multiples.

Keep thinking good thoughts, Momma! My doctor actually recommended that I not do the test because the results are totally unreliable with multiples. Good luck!

A genetic counselor told me that these tests are useless with twins (or any multiples)! GL!

I'm not positive, but as my peri explained it, that test is more for ruling things out than actually diagnosing potential issues with multiples. My DH and I had decided we were not going to have it done, but the peri assured us that being multiples, they might present risk factors in later ultrasounds and he just wanted us to be able to go back to the test results as a way to negate those factors. In other words, I wouldn't worry (which I know is easier said than done) especially with less than a 1% chance.

    Chin up!
