First Night Of CIO.....

Discussion in 'The First Year' started by [email protected], Jul 13, 2007.

We did our first night with CIO last night and it was awful!!! My daughter has been getting up 2-3 times a night for 1-2 ozs. of formula and then 3-5 times for a binky reinstertion. I am so exhausted during the day and I will be going back to work in August so I figure if I start it now, maybe by the time I go back to work I'll have them sleeping through the night. She cried ALL NIGHT LONG!! I felt terrible!!! I don't know if I can do this :cray:

Sorry to hear you had a bad night.

Everyone in TFY helped me see past the first screaming/ crying. I on day 2 of CIO for all naps and nighttime. It got easier to listen/ not listen to the cries. It must be hard to also add the pacifier fall out to the wole deal.

Kepp it up. YOu can do it.

hey there i just want to encourage you. it will work and it will get better. I chose to eliminate one thing at the time. I got rid of night nursing first week, then binky the second week. by the time they were 6.5 months they were finally sleeping 11-12 hrs. You are going to feel like a new woman once you get some uninterrupted sleep! just don't forget to increase the number of ounces in the bottle during the daytime so she's still getting the total ounces she was before you started CIO.

Good luck. It can be done, but I have a hard time with it. I let one of my boys CIO because he did it within a reasonable amount of crying time, but I still haven't done the other (his crying time is way longer, plus he cries and passes out when mad enough, which freaks me out so I just can't do it yet). It's no fun and I hope it's a quick transition for you.

The first night is the hardest. It takes consistency.

Consistancy is key, even though it is so hard!!! You are not a bad mommy, you are teaching them how to sleep on their own. :hug99:

We started CIO back on Sunday night to get ready for when we go back to August also. They have done fairly well. They cry only a few minutes and go back to sleep. However, they are still waking 2 times each a night. My guys have never taken a binky but, they want the attention and a little juice. We did CIO back in March and it worked but, in June when Noah had surgery we got out of the routine for obvious reasons. I understand your pain and trust me they will eventually get into sleeping through the night. I already feel much more rested even getting up to check their cries on the TV monitor because I am not holding a child a few times a night.

    Keep us posted.
