DD has a lot of hair. I have been playing around with the idea of getting it cut, at least bangs. Then i imagine the possible scene and think maybe i'll wait a while.

How old were your kids? how did it go? did you do it or have a professional do it?

On a side note any barrettes/ hair bands you like? Everything i have tried falls out and really is a choking hazard.

    TIA

My boys had their first haircut around 6 months - they had LOTS of hair. Fortunately, my mom did it, and still does. She's been cutting my dad's hair for years, so it made sense for her to do it. I can't imagine the chaos if I tried to take them somewhere. DS1 fights and hates haircuts and half the time I end up holding him while he gets his done.

Both were over 1...not sure exactly how much over. My son HATE HATE HATED it. We take them to a children's place and it took 2 women to get him done. Five haircuts later and he's finally starting to handle it. They said for boys that's pretty normal.

My daughter has long hair and stopped allowing anything in her hair so I took her in for a trim and bangs. She's only had 3 cuts but she loved it. Little princess. She calls hairbrushes "haircuts" and asks for them all the time.

I'm sure my DD was at least 1.

The boys were over 1... Annabelle still has a Mohawk thing going on so she'll be over 1 as well. I think about 18 months but my kids were bald for a couple of months.

Vivi was 2.5 years old. Not a whole ton of hair. I did it myself because I knew she would make a scene and all I did was trim her bangs. I've done it twice and last time she threw a FIT. Not sure what I'm going to do with Livie...she's got a good deal more hair than Vivi did at this age.

My oldest DS was about 16 months, pretty sure the woman at the kids cut place retired after him, pitched a Major fit!! I then learned how to cut hair. My DD doesn't mind haircuts. Both boys only want me to do it (they are 5 & 7)

My DH cuts our older son's hair. He did the first real cut around 18 months or so (he had very little hair until he was almost two). We just plunk him in front of the ipad in his booster chair and DH goes to town. He tolerates it pretty well and then always wants to help clean up afterwards (sweep up the hair LOL).

I think the babies won't be ready for hair cuts for quite a while either. They have more than DS1 did at this age, but they were still mostly bald until recently (9 months old).

Vanessa has a lot of hair. After she turned one, my parents convinced me to cut her bangs, and we did it at home - I regretted doing that. She was very scared and we had to hold her in place in her highchair while she was screaming. Of course, it was also my first time cutting hair and I was using our kitchen scissors, so you can imagine the result :). A month later her hair grew again and I didn't want to keep doing that to her so we just made it work with hair clips until her bangs got long enough to do a small ponytail and we keep doing that with her. I bought her some clips at Babies R Us that were covered in fabric, they weren't great, but they were big so they weren't able to swallow them. Her hair grows really fast, so bangs would have been a pain to maintain, plus she hates people touching her hair. Around 18 months we brought them both for their first haircut at a children's place, and she screamed while they trimmed her hair in the back.

My husband cut their bangs when they were about 11 months. We just strapped them in their high chairs (one at a time) and I held them still while he did it. He didn't do a very good job, but they were babies and no one cared.

He continued to cut their bangs and we just let the rest grow until they were about 2.5. They both had lots of hair, but it didn't get below their shoulders until then. At that point we took them to my stylist (she is good with kids too). It was tricky but she got the job done, with them sitting on my lap. We have since switched to a kids' salon because they really enjoy it, and even though it's more expensive, it's worth it to have them not fight it!
