We toured five daycare centers this week. I won't go into the total anxiety attack I'm having right now over cost- WHY is it so expensive??

Well, Alexis was up last night with her very first fever (102). We broke it with Tylenol but she has a very fast heart rate, is wheezing, and has a terrible barking cough. The ped diagnosed her with croup over the phone and told us just to do our best to ride it out and watch for stridor. :( My poor girl!

So begins our first year of childcare- not even enrolled yet and we've caught something. At this point I'm just waiting for Sam to catch it.

On the agenda for the day: TV, water, and the couch. So much for cleaning or running errands or anything else I had on my huge to do list. Alexis won't let me leave the room to refill my coffee!

I despise croup. I grew up listening to my sister with it. And I remember some hospital visits too!

Anthony had it at Easter two years ago. It was awful. If she is having trouble breathing-take her in the bathroom and run a hot steam shower. Sit there as long as you can with her.

And, none of my other two got it. Just lucky Anthony. Hang in there! Lots of fluids and rest!

My little guys' first year of day care (they were 2.5 when they went to a preschool center) was definitely illness-ridden. It is a pain, but the good news is that it decreases every year. Their second year, they were hardly sick at all...I am hoping that will hold true this year as well!

Hang in there. I hope she feels better soon! And you are totally right about the cost, it is ridiculous!

Aww poor Alexis. I hope she feels better soon.

Aliah had it when she was 3 and we weren't at daycare yet (too expensive!). Steam will definitely help so much as will elevating her when she sleeps. I hired a vaporiser from the pharmacy as our bathroom was too big to get steamy. She ended up getting stridor which we had to get a steroid prescription to get rid of. It was awful, I still remember it like yesterday, I felt so helpless.

Poor kiddo! I agree with the hot steamy shower. Also try the Vicks baby run on her feet.

As for daycare, the first few months my kids had the daycare plague, and now they haven't been sick for nearly two months which is a record! A lot of the things they get at daycare are one time illnesses, so it shouldn't last forever!

And daycare is crazy expensive here too... But we also have a built in preschool program with after school care included so it he boys get a lot out of it. And it won't be long until your sweet girls are in school!

Have you looked at in home daycares in lieu of centers? I know in Michigan, you can go to the Dept of Human Services web-site and can do a search for licensed in home daycares in your area (daycare licensing might be a different department in your state). The report it gives you comes with results of past inspections, violations, etc. I have found in home daycares to be a little less expensive. Good luck with your search and I hope your daughter feels better soon.
