    Hi!
I know it's a bit away...but we have been thinking about giving our boys a first birthday party..(believe it or not, before babies, we said we weren't going to have one, for some strange reason)...but now I really want too...

I'm a big planner, so I'm getting excited about this. Their birthday is in November (so kind of hard, not summer, not winter)We are pretty low key and aren't up to date on al the
"kids stuff", so we kind of wanted to do something layed back...

    Any ideas??

    Thanks!!

We are having the girls first birthday party this weekend. We are having an open house type party from 4-7pm. We invited family and friends and a few little ones(most of our friends don't have kids) We are doing a ladybug theme and decorating with balloons but that's about it. We are having a BBQ and finger foods and we will have cake. Nothing too extravagent, but just something to celebrate that we ALL survived the first year with twins!! Have fun planning. :)

We did a #1 Theme. Their cake was in the shape of a "1" and there were 1's on their invitations. We just invited family and close family friends. Since we knew all the other kids would be bored we had cookie decorating for the older kids. My girls birthday is 1 week before Halloween so we had Halloween cookies to decorate. I think everyone had a good time.

For their first birthday, we just had a really low key family dinner (Grandparents, Aunt, Uncle, cousins) with cake, balloons, etc. We didn't have a lot of really young kids there (just mine & 2 cousins who were 10 & 12) so I didn't have to come up with activities for them to do. For me, I know I have tons of big birthdays to do in the future so I didn't do anything huge for the first one but, like you said, I just wanted a bit of a party to celebrate getting through the first year!

I've been thinking about this, too!

I had my older dd's at an indoor playground, but I think I'm going to have the twins' party at the house. I'm going to see how much one of those blow up bounce houses are and possibly get that for the older kids. I'm thinking of only inviting a small amount of people as my family lives states away. I really probably should get things in order as it will be here before I know it.

My twinkies birthday is the day after Christmas, so we did a small party with a Winnie the Pooh theme. All of the decorations we ordered from Birthday Express, so you might want to check out their website for ideas. DH and I kept the party simple, the kids had a fabulous time. Enjoy planning! It will be here before you know it!

We had a very low-key first birthday. I found it hard to plan something big someplace else because of the cake eating the kids would do. I really wanted to be able to throw them in the tub after  So we had some family and friends over for a late lunch and snacks. We basically all played in the playroom for a couple hours! We did order cakes and just had a 1st birthday type theme, it was nice because there wasn't much clean-up.
Have fun in whatever you decide!

I was adamant about not having a 1st bday party but was talked into it by friends IRL and here. I'm a very laid back party planner so for their September bday, I started planning in Aug. The boys (and DH and I) love monkeys so we had a monkey/jungle theme. We just did a bbq (burgers/dogs) and such for food and I made monkey cupcakes. I also served fruit and banana pudding for desert. It was a ton of fun and was really just all of their friends and some of our friends who were expecting. The kids just played with the toys we had. I planned everything for inside b/c of the chance of rain. I hope you have a great time planning!

I'm thinking about doing two different types of cakes (a girly one for K and a boy one for E). I will have either cup cakes that are neutral or a neutral cake for the guests.

We had two different smash cakes... One was blue and the other pink with just the number one on them. The cake for family and friends was an "ocean" theme cake. If you plan on buying the cakes ask around the local grocery stores. We were able to buy our 1/4 sheet cake and they gave us the two smasch cakes free.

You guys have some great ideas!

Thank you for sharing...I'm not sure of our theme yet, but it will be mellow. I like the idea of checking into local stores...we call one of our boys monkey and the other turtle...maybe we'll pick a theme from there...

what did you guys do for invitations? did you make your own online? did you have an invite for each kid?

anyone ever do a 'no present' theme?
