Wes and Leah's first birthday is on Wednesday. Wow, I can't believe it has been a year.

Their birthday party is Saturday. Do you have any suggestions for how to make this a great party and enjoyable for everyone (especially me)? I just don't want to be running around like crazy.

Please share tips, suggestions, advice, and "don't dos."

    TIA!

I'll be moving over on Wednesday!

Buy as much stuff already prepared as you can. Keep it simple. Honestly they won't care and won't really understand what's going on. Use paper plates, cups and disposable flatware. I don't know how many people you have coming, but if there is lots of people they may be overwhelmed. Don't stress about it, you'll be fine. Remember to come back and show us all the pictures!

Speaking of pictures, have someone else be in charge of the camera. You want to be able to experience every moment and not watch it through the camera lens trying to get the perfect shot while at the same time missing the timeless moments!

That camara idea is great. Ours is coming soon and we have a big family. I can easily recruit someone to take the photos...plus it's digital so we can always get rid of 'bad' ones.

Carson and Anna Claire's first birthday party is a blur to me because I DID run myself crazy. We made the mistake of trying to feed everyone a meal. My husband stood over a grill the whole time, and I was in the kitchen cooking the rest of the food because our timing was off. It took longer to prepare everything than we thought. We just did finger foods for birthday #2 and enjoyed ourselves much more...
This year for their 3rd birthday we are having pizza delivered for everyone. I don't think we will ever try to do it all ourselves again. I like to put all my effort to the "fun" party of they party like decorating, game planning, etc...
I hope your party goes great!!!!

Keep it short -- 2 hours tops
Don't pass off your camera -- stay put with your twins and watch their day unfold!
Give other duties, like food prep, to others
Set up a room for kids only with lots of toys and keep them in there
Get free cakes, but only cut one; freeze the other or just do cupcakes
    Crockpot anything warm
Save your gifts for another day, and have a special gathering

That is a great idea just make sure it is someone who you trust, someone that is handy with a camera. I made the mistake of letting my neighbor be in charge of taking photos after she volunteered so I could enjoy the party, what a mistake. I am picky about my photos to begin with, but the ones she took were blurry and just plain awful. Thankfully I took a few of my own. :winking0009:

Get lots of sleep the night before.

    Keep things simple.

We did a pull apart cake that was made of cupcakes but looked like a sheet cake, I'm sure you know what I mean. We also had pizza delivered. Those two things made the party a lot easier.

Make sure it's at a good time for you kids as far as naps go. We did ours around 2 p.m., since at that age the girls usually napped until 1:30. It's no fun to have lots of people in your house with cranky kids!
