So we changed our theme from prince and princess to the lil' cupcake theme on the 1st wishes website. Since they have boy/girl cupcake themed plates and so forth. I changed because there are more outfits and things to do with a cupcake theme.

So I was reading People.com the other day, and I read about Christina Aguilara's sons' birthday party. And she had catered 'baby sized' snacks/food for her menu. I originally wanted to grill hamburgers and hot dogs, but with the price of meat, and me not knowing how many guests there will be (prob 30), I thought it would be cheaper if I were to copy her idea of 'baby sized' snacks, fruit, lunch, whatever.

My problem is, how would I do this? Say I wanted to make mini sandwhiches, do I just take a cookie cutter, and cut a few out of each sandwhich? I am so confused.
Also, what else is baby sized snacks? How do you make it? Thanks ladies for all your help!

Are you feeding the adults "baby sized" foods or is it just for the kids?

We did pizza. Our local Papa John's was able to provide 6 pizzas for $100 with tip. It fed everyone. (And us for about a week after!)

To make small sandwiches, yup, just cut it with cookie cutters. :)

    We did pizza.

Same here. It was easy and no work in the kitchen. I also order party platters from the local grocery store of fruit and veggies. Lot of finger foods.

Its your party. Do what YOU want.

Sliders (mini hamburgers) are pretty popular now, too. And easy to make. You can get presses online or make your own. In a pinch I made some at my MILs for a group using a well washed small condensed soup cap with both ends cut out of it and a round meat tenderizer to squish them flat. We used rolls instead of buns and had a variety of cheeses and toppings (like mushrooms, and guacamole in addition to the typical lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles). Makes them more bite sized, but most likely not cheaper.

Nice thick copper cookie cutters do a pretty good job of making mini sandiches as well. Or you can cut them by hand. Just remember to use a tooth pick or something to help hold them together.

Pizza is an easy one, too. You can have homemade pizza and use a roller to cut it into small pieces, or order out and ask them not to cut it if you want to do a bite sized them. Then when you get it cut if yourself.

But if you are really looking for cheap, how about just an afternoon cake and ice cream only kind of party? Do it at a non-meal time and say something like "Join us for cupcakes and ice cream" in the invite.

We will have around 20-25 at Olivia's party.

I'm going to Costco and getting 2 whole chickens (about $7) and cooking them in the crockpot. I'll shred all the chicken off and make a crockpot of shredded chicken (so probably $10-$12 total with buns). A few bags of chips, cans of pop and bottled water and a fruit bowl. I'm not doing a ton of food, too expensive. I am also getting a cake and a big gallon of ice cream!

We are just having various finger foods. A couple different dips, fruit tray, veggie tray, probably some kind of chicken something... I don't have it all planned out exactly yet but that's what we're doing.

For past parties we have done:
    -- pizza and salad
-- sandwiches, chips, fruit and veggies
-- 3-foot burrito, chips, salsa, guacamole and fruit
-- Lasagna, salad and garlic bread

mmmMm your making me hungry. Thank you for all your suggestions. I think I may go with pizza this year, to keep it simple and where I don't have to clean a ton after wards, or spend hours in the kitchen. Although I really wanted to do bite size things, and put them in cupcake liners since that's our theme. UGH... I don't know.... :(

What about doing some apps in those little phyllo dough mini cups...here's just one link to recipes, but I'm sure you could adapt them to make them more kid friendly. I've had bruchetta served in them and it's delicious. That site shows all types of mini meals and desserts served in the cup/shells. It might get expensive to do too many, but maybe a few to stick with the cupcake theme? You could also get some little plastic cups that are firmer than cupcake wrappers but the same size/style and fill them with spaghetti nests - cute, yummy, CHEAP!
