First Birthday Ideas?

Ok, my girls are almost eight months...but it's bleak, boring January and I am getting a head start on ideas for their first birthday. What "theme" did you use and did you make/purchase invitations and what did they say? I would love to make invitations...we are tight on cash so any crafty ideas for invites, decor, food, etc... would be great!! Most of the guests will be adults (probably 5 kids under 6)...should we do some type of game for the adults and should I make goody bags for adults/kids??

 

We bought Hugs and Stitches Girl for their paper goods, etc. We didn't do any games but did have goody bags. Since we had over 20 kids, and there was a huge variety of ages, I just bought large Halloween size bags of candy and made the goody bags with that stuff. I bought clear plastic bags at iParty and tied my own ribbons to them.

We had a mid afternoon party to accommodate the girls' schedule so we decided to just do a bunch of munchies and cupcakes.

I printed their invite myself, which I don't know necessarily saved money. It said:

TWICE THE SINGING, TWICE THE DANCING
TWICE THE LAUGHTER, TWICE THE FUN
HELP US CELEBRATE TURNING ONE!!
