I went to my first apt. with my new ob yesterday (i couldnt stand my last ob it took weeks for them to get back to me about anything and hours on hold when I was having side pains). I really liked the Doc I went to yesterday he seemed really attentive and on top of things. He gave me an Rx for extra folic acid and an iron pill since its twins and listened for heart beats but since it was only 9.6 weeks he couldnt diferentiate them but what he heard was 170. I had an U/S the end of nov. with my last doc. so he said the next one would be at 18 weeks with a maternal fetal medicine specialist then from there they'd have U/S every four weeks. Also he wants to do a c-section because I had an apesiotomy straight through with my son which caused a lot of bowel problems that he's going to send me to a rectal surgeon after the pregnancy's over and figures a c-section will help not cause any further distress down there.

The one thing that was odd to me was that he isn't starting U/S till 18 weeks, Is that normal?

He said he should be able to diferentiate the heart beats by next visit January 6th.

I feel like I had 758 ultrasounds with my twins.

Are you having the nuchal fold scan? If so, that is accompanied by an ultrasound, and usually happens between 11-13 weeks ... I had an ultrasound at almost every single doctors appt, but my doc was maybe just more cautious? She couldn't always differentiate the babies on the doppler, and they had an u/s machine in the office, so if she wasn't sure she was getting both heartbeats she would always send me for an u/s to make sure all was good ... But had we had an easier time with that ... i think I would have had the u/s with my nuchal fold scan, and not again until 20 weeks ...

Glad you are comfortable with your new doctor. I switched about half way through my pregnancy because I was really uncomfortable with my last doctor. Good luck with everything!

Oh and the ultrasounds, I get one every 2 weeks at MFM, but we are high risk.

Oh and in the beginning of my pregnancy I was seeing mid wives and they used the doppler and we only ever heard one heart beat (before we knew it was twins) because baby B was directly behind Baby A!

Seems like you should be having an u/s with your MFM around 12 weeks if you want the first timester screen/nuchtal scan. I would question that if I were you.

If you aren't having the nuchal fold screen and it was apparent in your last u/s that the babies are di/di, then waiting until 18 weeks is fine. If there is a chance they are mono/di though you should be getting (at minimum) an u/s every 2 weeks starting at 16 weeks to watch for TTTS.

I'm glad you liked your 1st appointment!

Glad you like your new doc! I switched at 32 w and am glad I did. ;)
No u/s for that long seems strange to me and a bit concerning. We found out we were having twins at 12w and had a u/s at every visit after that (16, 20, 22.5, 26, 28, etc.).

I'm glad you found someone you like. That can make all the difference in the world! As for the u/s, I don't know what's normal (sitll learning that here), but I start going in 2 wks when I'll be ~16wks along. Honestly I don't know what's going to happen after that bc I don't have my plan of care with the OB until 4 wks from now (I just met with my mw today). It seems like they're treating me the same as a singleton in the beginning, except with an u/s a month early.
