I am not sure what I am doing wrong here but it must be something. I keep trying to introduce finger foods to the boys but they want nothing of it. I have tried cheerios, puffs, pancakes…. Any time something other then a puree lands on their tongue they gag. They look at me like I have tried to poison them. They are getting good at the pincher grip and they are curious when dh and I are eating, but the just don’t like solids. When did yours eat finger foods? What am I doing wrong?

Nothing! Just keep offering them and they will eventually get the hang of it. Tyler was a superior gagger even after he turned a year. It did go away.

Just keep offering. Some kiddos take a little longer than others (gag reflex, texture, etc). Mine didn't really start getting into finger foods much until 9-10 months and even then weren't real keen on solids until we pretty much went to all finger foods after they were a year old.

Sounds like they're not ready. That means you're not doing anything wrong... just stressing over something you can't change! Give your boys another month or so and try again. They certainly don't need to be eating finger foods at 8 months old; they'll get it when they're ready.

You're doing a great job! My boys started fingerfoods at 7 months ( biter biscuits & cheerios first). My son Nicholas gags when i try to feed him lumpy food & usually just sucks on the finger food. The secret I learned was to put the food on the tray & walk away. ( not far of course) I pretend not to notice what he's doing. He gets so curious about the food on the tray & he puts it in his mouth. This worked for me ~ hope it works for you too! ;) Also, My son David is the complete opposite, he eats everything in sight. Good Luck!

I also say to keep offering them. With any type of food they adjust over time. Then all of a sudden, they get it :).

Ditto here! They did ok on the first puff then gagged on the next one... I'll try again at 9 months, I'm in NO rush, and I have lots of stage 2 jars and cereal boxes left anyway.

Sofie got it right away but Maia hated it! Sometimes she still prefers that I feed her. I think it was around 8-9mo that I started them with puffs, eventually cheerios, cheese, etc.

Just keep offering it to them and they'll figure it out. Good luck!!

I would say just keep trying and they will eventually get it. GL!

I would agree with what other people said: you are not doing anything wrong at all, just keep offering the finger foods and they will get it. Mine did that, we started with puffs at 6 months and it was not until 8 months until they got the point. Good luck!
