The boys will be 8 months old next week and we need to get crackin’ on finger foods. I have been offering them puffs but they just end up sticking to their chubby hands or face. On a rare occasion one might make it to their mouth where it is promptly spit out. Thank goodness for my dogs who have replaced my need to vacuum. I was reading on the wholesome baby food site that I can start to introduce cheese. What type of cheese do you use and in what form? Do you shred it, cut it up in cubes, how do you serve it? Also did your kiddo’s take to it? Thanks!

I give mine the kroger brand cheese crumbles and they have done fine with it.

Mine really liked those Kraft Crumbles and any brand of shredded cheese, but mild cheddar was a favorite.

I would just encourage you not to stress about it. A lot of people are really in a hurry on finger foods, and if your babies are into it, that's fine. But some just aren't into it nearly this early, and that's OK too. My DDs could barely get a Cheerio to their mouths at 8 months, and were still mostly on purees (plus smooth things like yogurt) at 12 months. They feed themselves just fine now. :)

Re: cheese, we used regular cheddar cheese that I just sliced into small (1/4" or so) cubes. That's all the "crumbles" are, except the crumbles are more expensive because Kraft does the cutting for you. My babies enjoyed shredded cheese too, but boy is it messy. Even at age 3, when I give them shredded cheese it gets ALL over the place.

My girls like the kraft cheese crumbles. At first I broke them up even smaller now I just pour some on their tray and let them have at it.
As for them getting food into their mouths, I wouldnt stress, practice makes perfect. My girls still miss their mouth, when I take them out of their highchairs I am amazed at how much is in their seats!

Mine started to get the hang of finger foods around 8 months...but each baby is different in this regard. They'll get it. I tried Velveeta one time and they seemed to like it. Sams Club has cheese cubes, so when I get a minute to go there, I'll pick some up for the little ones.

Mine will be 8 months in 4 days but I'm not even bothering with finger foods for now. They still like their purees and I doubt they would be able to really grab the food yet anyway. I'm in no hurry. Keep in mind that some babies don't start solids until 12 months and they do just fine!
