I have started feeding the boys finger food like cooked peaches, bananas, cheerios, tofu cubes, etc. Meal time is INSANELY messy! It is all over them (they rip off bibs), all over the chair and all over the floor. Seriously, is it suppose to be this messy or am I doing something wrong? By the time I get everything cleaned up, it's time to do it again and I can't be giving them three baths a day! Doing this three times a day is killing me!

They do get better, but mealtime is still pretty messy around here. I tend to save the messiest stuff for dinner b/c we do baths before bed. I switched to the bibs that snap in the back (with the pocket on them) to stop them from pulling their bibs off. I usually get 2 warm washcloths and do hands/face after each meal. As far as the chair/floor I just wipe everything on to the floor after every meal and use the swivel sweeper (like a mini hand vac) and sweep it all up, DD likes to 'help' me with that task.

They get better, but we saved the messier stuff for later in the day, too. It felt like forever until they got the hang of it, but all mine needed was some practice. Sorry it is such a mess for you right now. :hug99: They will eventually get to using forks and spoons, and doing well with them.

Mine seem messy. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

YOu are not alone...and yep, that's how it's supposed to be. Honestly, the self-feeding (before they could use utensils) was my least favorite time. It was such a mess and it gets old cleaning up constantly from meal times. But, it gets better!

ugggh....I'm glad mine aren't the only messy ones but that wasn't what I wanted to hear. Well, maybe I will just get a big mat for under their high chairs or something. UGH.

For really messy things, I would strip them down to their diaper. I keep a box of wipes in the kitchen to help with cleaning up the girls after each eating event. And I went through a lot of Swiffer products. I also love my swivel sweeper.

It is a mess, it's a pain, but you'll figure out ways to make it easier on yourself, and they will get better. :hug99:

Totally normal, but it will get a little less messy. I time the messy stuff for when I'm about to give them a bath.

We're pretty messy too. I've been lucky that Jake just learned how to "throw" food and Ryan just drops stuff on accident. They don't like to loose any of their food. I stick to grilled cheese, mixed veggies and fruit for lunch and chicken, sweet potatoes/squash, and fruit for dinner. If I do something really messy like spaghetti, it's only at dinner with a bath right after. My boys favorite thing to do is put food in their hair. You name it, they've used it as hair gel! Although I hate the clean up, I love not having to do the battle of feeding them with a spoon.
