My son and daughter are still eating stage 2 foods. They are 9 months and 1 week. We haven't tried finger foods yet. My daughter still seems to have trouble swallowing stage 2. But I feel like I should start .... yesterday! At their 1st birthday they won't even be able to eat any of their cake because they won't be able to chew it :( Can anyone provide some suggested finger foods/tips???

    Thank you SO much!

I started mine with Gerber puffs. To tell you the truth that is still the only finger/table food they are on  DD has no teeth at all and I won't give her anything else for fear of choking. And my DS has a few teeth but is still not so great with other textures. Although I am starting some Stage 3 foods now. Other ladies will have good advice I'm sure. Good luck :)

We have a great FEEDING GUIDE in a sticky at the top of this forum. I started with puffs also, and moved on to soft cooked fruits and veggies, then things like pasta and toast. Don't worry, they will get there, I have no doubt they will be eating their birthday cake! :icon_biggrin:

Mine are just a little older than yours, and we have just now started with the finger foods as well. I did start with the stage 3 foods for about a week to get them used to more texture. Then I started giving them puffs that I broke into a few smaller pieces (they disolve pretty quickly and they love them!!) and just a few days ago gave them little bits of cheese and cut up bananas. They can't pick it up too well, but they are trying their hardest!! I gave them some rice off my dinner plate last night and they seemed to like it, but I had to feed it to them, they couldn't pick up those little pieces of rice. I was really worried about choking as well, but they seemed to have taken to chewing with their 4 little teeth pretty well. Just take it a little bit at a time, maybe just give them a few puffs on their tray while you are feeding them their baby food. Do that for a while and see how they take to them. Good Luck!!

I started with Gerber Puffs, after they got the hang of chewing those I moved the to fruit and veggies. Good Luck and just keep trying it may take a littl while before the get the hang of it.

we started with puffs and cheerios at our OT's suggestion. The puffs dissolve quickly, so that's nice, and the cheerios have a hole in them so if they choke momentarily, it's okay. I know that sounds insane! But that's exactly what the OT said, and she was right :)

We started with Puffs. They have also had little pieces of bread, pancake, that toast with the strange name, frozen banana sticks and today I am going to give them cantaloupe. Our pedi gave us a list of things to try - if I can find it I will add it to this post.

I'm surprised your pedi suggested cantaloupe.

Their gums are actually pretty hard and they can chew with them. If you can mash it between your thumb and pointer then they can mash it up with their gums. You don't need teeth to chew, just a "chewing action".

Does the pedi start recommending certain "solid" foods around their nine month visit? My guys only have 2 teeth and sometimes they worry me with the puffs and I tried Stage 3 the other day and Noah started gagging and choking. SO, I know they are not ready for that level off food.

I started with steamed veggies (really steamed). They were soft and the girls could pick them up with their fingers. Because they were so soft, the easily swollowed them. Zucchini, squash, and cauliflower were the best starters for my two. I thought puffs were still to crunchy so I waited a little bit on those.

We also started with Puffs. They were easy to dissolve and easy to pick up. Then we just kept moving forward with small soft things. The better they get the more I give them. Plus Patrick has more teeth so he gets more texture than Kevin some times. Good luck! Now the fun begins! ;)
