We have been trying to give the boys finger foods for the last couple of weeks and they are just not liking them. They will eat the same food in the baby puree form, but not cut up in small pieces. I have the day care trying to work with them now, but so far they haven't been successful either.

They are almost 10 months old and I don't know if I am trying to rush things, or doing something wrong. Maybe they aren't ready for them yet.

    Please share tips/ideas!

    Thank you!

Try giving them Puffs. Break them in half and put them in their mouth to help. Usually mine would let me feed them and then it just takes practice to learn how to pick things up. GL!

I agree, my two were addicted to Puffs!

We also started with Puffs. I liked them because when I tried one before giving them to my lo's, it melted and I did not have to chew it. They eventually got the hang of picking them up--first with their whole fist, then their fingers, then just two fingers. Good Luck!

We started with mum mums, which they love and you don't need a pincer grasp to hold. They love puffs too.

have you tried puffs or other gerber type finger foods? mine like that sort of crunchy stuff but they don't love to pick up mushy carrots or banana pieces even tho they will eat them if i put it in their mouth.

I agree with Puffs! I'm pretty sure its crack that makes them dissolve bc mine are addicted and shake with excitement just from seeing the tub!!!!! Also help them feed themselves too, mine are just starting to get the hang of actually getting it to their mouths by themselves rather than having 5 puffs sticking to their hands and them sucking them off. Good luck!

Sorry, what are puffs? Are they like sugar puffs as in the cereal? TIA

I’ve found that the Gerber Graduates Wagon Wheel snacks work better for our little ones, the Puffs can be difficult for them to pick up because they are so small.

All of the above worked for us. We didn't start finger food till 10 months and it did take a while for them to get used to it. They loved bananas and green beans so I thought they'd be all over the finger food version but they were grossed out by touching it. Even now they both get annoyed when their food sticks to their hands or they get ketchup on them. Have you tried the mesh feeders? That helped my LO's eat without having to touch it.

You could try using mesh feeders. They're fairly easy for them to hold and then they can just suck at whatever's inside. I mostly used them for fruit-pears and bananas work well (but they still get seriously messy-at least mine did!).
I would also say experiment with different textured foods and sometimes having a larger piece of something can be easier for them-small pieces can be difficult for them to pick up, hold onto and get into their mouths. I used to cut fruit into long strips so they could grab hold of it and still have some sticking out the end of their fist to chew on. Giving it to them off your hand (instead of putting it on the plate/tray) can make it easier for them to pick up too.
