Finding a babysitter, need some help

I live far from my family and friends (over an hour). I need a good babysitter, and I am so paranoid about hiring a stranger. Who do you guys use (other than family)...and have you ever used a refferal service, like mybabysitter.com....Any help would be great!

Hi Mandy,

I just noticed you live close to me. I am in Sellersville. We have family about 45 minutes a day and haven't used anyone else yet. We have a neighbor who has a 17 year old niece who babysits, we just haven't tried her yet. When we do if it works out, I will see how far she can travel and let you know.

I used a referral from our church.

 

DH has a colleague with a teenager daughter who babysits a lot -- we've used her a couple of times.

Mostly we use teachers from their daycare, so that's not much help to you. Good luck!

 

Do you belong to a church? Do they have a newsletter/bulletin? I have found putting something in there usually works the best and you usually get good teenagers with similar values.

 

we are involved in a church. we use the teens. my DH is the youth pastor at the church and we also get alot of inquiries from parents at the church as to who we would recommend to babysit. I usually give a couple of names then ask the parent to invite them over while they are still going to be home so that mom can observe the sitter with the kids and see how it's going. this method usually works. I don't know if you're looking for an alternative to daycare or just a sitter for an evening out.
