First of all my beautiful boys are finally here!!

Ok I am a little worried because only one of the boys has pooped once since I brought them home yesterday. I have been trying to BF but my milk didn't come in until today. So I was supplimenting with the formula (similac w/iron) that the hospital gave me. So I am wondering if they may just be a little constipated from the extra iron, thier bellies don't really feel hard at all. The other thing is that they only want to latch to one of my breasts so I got a Medela breast pump (wonderful) so they have been eating ebm all day. I have been giving them 1/2 oz to an oz every 2 to 4 hours and I don't know if that is too much or not enough I just want them to start pooping!!They have been sooo good since they started getting the breast milk. They are only crying when they are wet or need to burp and sleeping most of the day. Please help!

    congratulations! they're adorable!

I don't think you need to worry just yet. every baby is different. but Breast fed babies can often go a day or more w/o needing to poop because BM is so easy on their systems, they usually use most of what they get, so there's not as much waste as w/ formula. I'd give it another day at least. then if you're still concerned call the pediatrition, and ask when it's time to worry. I'm sure they're just saving it up for a midnight blowout or something. that's what my kids always do anway. :)

My pediatrician told me it's not how often they go, but the consistancy of the poo when the finally do go. He said if it's like toothpaste or birdseed then everything was fine. As long as it wasn't hard then there was nothing to worry about. It is normal for babies to go a few days without having a BM and I'm sure even longer when they are BF.

oooh, they are gorgeous! How old are they? I think the iron might be constipating, but i would definitely call the pedi- again, depends on how old they are, mine told me that they should be poopig pretty frequently, at least every other diaper change. This is not to worry you, but i would call so you can ease your mind.

about the one breast latch - hmmm, i have no idea why, do you? Do you think it's a difference in your nipple, or - do you notice if they are latching on your dominant or regressive side - i mean, if you are a righty, are htey latching onto your left boob, or visa-versa: maybe it has to do with the way you position them?

have you tried different holds? I kow for my littler girl the only one that worked for a while was the football hold, she just couldn't seem to get it w/a cross cradle.

I'm sure you've got nothing to worry about - except you're surely tired from all that pumping. Been there, still there. Keep up the great work!

Hi Ericka! Welcome to the FY forum! I think the lack of poop is ok as long as they don't seem to be in any pain and their tummies are soft. Way to go on the bf/pumping! Have you been to the BFing forum, they could probably give you more advice on the latch issues.

Hello Ericka -- :sign0016: to FY! Glad you made it over -- great picture of the boys! I think you don't need to worry just yet about the constipation but when they do go, make sure the consistency is right, it should be wet and seedy if you are Bfing. Congrats on the pumping and like Becky said, definitely check out the BF Forum.

:sign0016: to the FY board. Your babies are adorable. My pedi told me its common for babies to not have a BM in a few days. But if your concered call your pedi and ask about, they get paid the big bucks to put up with new mommy concerns. :)

Congrats and welcome to the FY board! Your boys are beautiful!! You have gotten some pretty good answers so far, just wanted to add that I also think the non pooping one is probably just fine, you'll be elbow deep in it soon enough!! Just go ahead and put you pedi office on speed dial :help: I think we all have!! We all have the BTDT experience, but the pedi knows best! Good luck with those little ones, and cherish evey second...it goes by SOOOO fast, really, I swear I was just right there where you are now, but my little ones are 11 months today! :shok:

Congrat's on your beautiful babies. I understand worrying about poo's. Mine are going on ten months and I still neurotically chart pee and poo's to make sure they are going.

I read in a parenting mag that it is possible/normal for a BF baby to go once a week every now and then.

Welcome to the FY!! I am so glad to see you here.
