Finalizing name choices

After reading through literally thousands of names, DH and I have managed to narrow our list down to 4:

Alex (Alexander)
Elijah (probably often called Eli for short)
Ethan
Will (William)

I guess Oliver is still sort of a wild card; we both like it, but aren't sure how well-received it would be here where we live. I feel like we could "get away with it" better in a more urban area.

I had to let go of not wanting names that are "too popular" because as hard as we've tried to find less popular names that we both like, it just wasn't happening. (Although Elijah's only around #30 and Oliver is way down the list; not in the top 100.)

What makes the final decision complicated is that my favorite of the four is his least favorite of the four and vice-versa! Also, we wouldn't put Ethan and Elijah together since we don't want "matchy" names.

So ... what do you all think would be the best combination?
Should we each just pick our favorite (which, remember, is the other's least favorite of the four)? Or should we compromise and pick the two names in the middle?

If it matters, DH's favorites (in order) are: Elijah, Will, Ethan, Alex
Mine are: Alex, Will, Ethan (though Will and Ethan are pretty tied for me), Elijah

Do you have middle names picked out?
Why don't you combine the 4 names you like so you can use all 4?

Example: Ethan Alexander, Elijah William, William Elijah, William Alexander, .....

Just a thought.

 

I'd say to pick your favorite and he pick his.

I do like these combinations together....

Elijah William
Alex Ethan

 

I definitely like Will (William) that is my brother's name (William) and he now goes by Will. It was also 2 of my Great-grandfathers' names.
Then I'd say, Alexander and then Ethan.

 

Elijah and Alex are cute together. I don't think Will and Ethan sounds quite as nice together. Ethan and Alex sounds nice together too. This way you can both have the names you both like. Or if you guys like Will and Ethan just as well, then neither of you will end up not liking one name. Then you will have to decide which twin gets which name. This is a tough situation. We just did away with the names that one of us didn't like and came up with alternatives. It is a long process but you so get there eventually. GL.

I like the sound of Alex and Eli, if you name them Alexander and Elijah and call them Alex and Eli for short!

 

I think Alex and Eli sound super cute too!!!

 

I vote for the "wild card" for one of the names. I love the name Oliver.

Oliver William

and either Alexander or Elijah for the second

as in ALexander Elijah

or

Elijah Alexander

William is my least fav of the four.

 

I like William and Alexander together.
They are both classic formal names with nice shorter versions that you've mentioned. The are also versital if your sons decide to re-invent themselves later in life. They could become Xander and Liam, or Bill and Lex.

 

I love Ethan. I wanted it for my boys but we found other names he liked as well. William is used a lot so if you want something that is different then I would use it for a middle name only. I honestly dont know any Alex's so I vote for that one.

 

I actually like Oliver. you could call him "Ollie" for short. Cute!!

 

I think you should either pick each of your favorites... or name them Ethan and Alex.. That sounds the best to me. (although my oldest DS middle name is Elijah)

Before I read what your or DH's favorites were I decided I really liked Alex and Eli together. It just might be the best compromise!

I think each of you should cross off choice number 4 and choice number 1 and compromise with the two in the middle (which are my favorite!!)

I am partial to Alexander and Oliver (those are my twins, Alex and Ollie). The names flow nicely together long and shortened and the people wearing them are gorgeous!

Amanda down here in the south, "different" or "unusual" names aren't exactly common

My kids names are irish.

Sean went over okay.

Kaelyn was kinda iffy.

Liam is getting looks of confusion and disgust.

Rylee is getting an of confusion!

:lol: It's not the "norm" for around here....personally I don't really care, we love the names, but they are definetly unique for this area!

 

Do either you or your DH really, really not like the others favorite? Because being #4 out of a thousand names is actally pretty good I think you should each pick your favorites as long as you are "okay" with the other. Then you both have name you really love and the other will grow on you the second you say it while looking in that sweet little face. Good Luck! Names are hard!

 

I really like Oliver and Ethan, or Oliver and Alex. If Oliver has been ruled out then I like Ethan and Alex.
