I first saw Dunstan Baby Language on Oprah. Dunstan claims that you can figure out what your baby wants by 5 "distinct" sounds that your baby makes. Apparently all babies make the same sounds depending on what they need because it is a reflex, and all babies make the same sounds regardless of what language the parent speaks.
    Owh- im sleepy
    Heh-change me
    Eh- Burp Me
    Neh-Im so Hungry
    Earih- I have Wind

The sounds that she has listed are all really similar to me and its hard for me to distinguish between them. Maybe thats why you have to buy the DVD to get more in tune to each sound.

Has anyone tried this and had success with it? If it works I would be willing to give it a try. Especially with 2 of them, being able to know what they want rather than playing the guessing game would be incredibly helpful.

I saw that episode and I hate to say it, but I couldn't stop laughing! I think this one may be a little far-fetched but of course that is only my opinion. If you get the DVD and find it is effective, please let us know. The way I see it, if the list of possible things your child may want/need is as short as 5, then you might as well just try all 5 and check them off your list as you go :D . I'm a huge sucker for baby-related things like this, but not this time.

I saw this too and immediately went to Amazon to see how much it was. $35!!! It also says it only works up until 3months. I do have to say that I am able to tell when my boys need to burp better. It turns out they need to burp twice as much as I thought. The way I see that sound is that they are making a sound like they want to get something out...eh. I wouldn't spend the money on the DVD though.

I had no idea it was $35! There is no way I would spend that much money on it, especially since its only for the 1st 3 months...

My brother bought this for me before the boys were born and the only sound any of us were ever able to distinguish was "Neh" for hunger. That part helped, but the rest of it was just entirely a gamble. I do not think it was worth $35 at all, though the concept of her researching the different types of cries is kind of interesting (you learn about that part while watching Oprah, though! :D ).

i saw this episode when i was pregnant, when right online to buy it, but it was $60 back then!! so i decided we'd just have to figure it out the old-fashioned way!

i agree with serranoboys....mine cried when they were hungry, wet, something hurts or over-tired. nowadays you can add bored to the list too! if mommy instinct is off, i just run through the list.

My MOL bought it for us as a gift (thought we had to have it). My DH and I were just talking the other day about what a waste of time the DVD was. EVERY CRY sounded like hunger to me! I watched it quite a few times and really tried to study it...but still, it did nothing. NOW...if you could get that lady to come to your house, live with your family and constantly tell you what your babies needed, that would be a different story ;) If you want to check it out, I'd be willing to sell my copy to you, but I don't think it would do much. JMO though...

We still call Nah to mean nurse... that was the only one that I distinctly heard.
