Sounds like you like it? I am on the waiting list for the library e-books. You will have to let us know if the whole trilogy is good.

Lol! It's a page turned for sure! The second book is equally good so far.

It is good. There are some parts I do find a little unbelievable but it's a definite turn your brain off and just read the story type of read.
Oh and Meaghan, I'm definitely blushing as I read.

I'm enjoying the second book. The first one ends on a cliffhanger. Can't wait to hear what you think when you are done Nancy!

This is like the 5thh time I've heard about this book this week! Did it just come out? I heard a story on NPR, then one on a regular radio station, them an article in the nytimes, and now this.

I think it came out in 2011 at some point. I only heard about it from a friend. She read the whole thing on her iPhone! And she even woke at 2am and continued reading! Lol!

I know there was a story on the Today show, which is where she heard about it. I've never heard about it until my friend mentioned it.

A movie would be pretty interesting, but the only place you'd find that is in a porn shop!

Meaghan, I finished book one and have book 2. I had to put book 2 on hold since one of my library books (Outlander-AWESOME) finally came in.

I did read online that there is controversy about this story because apparently it started out as Twilight fanfiction and there are people who were fans of the fanfiction and they feel used that the author put it online.
They gave her feedback and suggestions and then she pulled it offline and had it published.

I did enjoy book 1, I think EL James does have interesting characters in Ana and Christian. I just wish Christian's stalker tendencies were toned down a bit and I wish she kind of went into how this guy got so fabulously rich on his own at such a young age. Maybe she does go through that in later books.

These books are so very bad. Oh so very bad. I read the first one--the writing is atrocious, but I did want to know where the story went. Answer: no where. It goes no where. I'm not even sure there is a story in book two. It's just one sex scene repeated over and over in different locations. I don't even care anymore. I'm angry at the author for even writing this drivel. It's been a long time since I couldn't even finish a book, and I can't even finish this. It's ridiculous. It makes me want to read Twilight again just to get the ridiculous fan fiction out of my head. I didn't love Twilight, but at least it had basic story construction--beginning, middle, and end.

Thanks for an honest review, Rachael. I suspected as much but had contemplated reading the first book after the hype. Now I think I will pass. I've got so many books on my 'to read' list that I don't want to waste my time if it's not good.

Don't even start it. I'm almost done with the first book. Which i know I will finish today, but i kind of felt like Racheal
That being said I did spend amlost an hour trying to get the epub book on my kindle fire. I didn't know my adobe password and it would not let me reset it. I must have spend 15 mintues guessing any possible password, which is kind of hard when I have no clue when i opend the acount that would tell me what my password was. (funny thing is the hint questions like pet's name- since it is usually DH's dog that has been dead for 9 years).

I'm trying to decide if i want to get on the wait list at the library for the 2nd book. there are already 245 people on the wait list for 60 copies of the book.

    I will say this....

I read all three and did enjoy them. That said, I thought the sex was way over the top an ended up skimming most of those parts. I had a good friend read the first book and she was not thrilled. She said way too much sex, etc. I told her the second book was a bit toned down, so she tried it, and enjoyed it much more than the first. I think the last two are more about the relationships between the characters than just sex.

I've finished the first two books (and have the third on hold at the library, I have compulsion about completing trilogy books...as I much as I hated Twilight, I still had to read all the books)....and one of the problems I do have is that I just don't get the notion of Christian as this romantic hero...his possessive and controlling nature is a bit over the top. No matter how much Ana tells him it is out of line, he doesn't seem to change it...unless that happens in the third book.

See I disagree with Rachel. I went in thinking it was going to be all sex but I thought there was actual character development and growth. No, it doesn't take place in tons and tons of time but I don't think that detracted from the story. It got repetitive with the sex and yes, I did start skipping those parts and no, it's not war and peace but if you need a good beach read, I think it's good for that.

Just finished the first book - its mind candy - I generally just read for enjoyment - quick reads - nothing too substantial...it is one seriously f'ed up book though!!

and I didn't mind the erotica part of it...

I really like them. No, they're not perfectly written or terribly intellectually stimulating but at least they're not BORING.

    I am almost done w/ book 3.

I did find them boring. That was a big part of my problem. But I'm definitely in the minority! :)

I finished book 3 (finally) and I can say that was the worst of all 3 books. I really had a hard time getting into it. There is really nothing about Christian that is appealing to me. Yeah, the guy had a rough start to life but it's okay for him to act like jackhole for the rest of it because of that. I thought the first two books were fine and I really thought we'd see by the third he would be less controlling and possessive and that doesn't happen. That just bugged me. Or I am just one of those people who will never be submissive, I guess

I have not read the book but my mom said it is like porn. They are making it into a movie with possibly Alex Skargaard from True Blood as the main character.

Okay, now Alex is a total hottie. But I do hope if there is a movie version out...that they really re work the screenplay so that it is watchable.

I only got through reading the first few comments and felt I should stop. I am just about at the end of book 1

Some say it is not a good series to read. I am enjoying my quiet time reading even though I am NOT a book reader. I started on Saturday. My husband bought it for me. He is ordering the other two now. I can't believe I went through this book so quickly

I did tell my husband he might not want me to get the other two lol

Does anyone know of a man who has read this book?

I did read a little more than paragraph of chapter 24 to my husband and all he could do was say "interesting"

I kind of *want* my husband to read it. I am sure he's been quite glad I read it. :spiteful:
I am kind of excited to see the movie when it comes out-although I am not sure how they will be able to make a movie out of it that is not adult rated????

Per this thread and several nagging friends, I finally downloaded the first book on my lunch break. I'm barely into it, but the writing is pretty terrible. The word crap has been used three times in twenty pages, she's rolled her eyes at least four times, and she was besieged twice in one sentence.

The sex better be good! ;)

Read the first one as a book club read. HATED it. I really can't remember the last time I enjoyed a book less than this one. The writing was horrendous, the story line was boring, and I swear if she bit her lip or said "Oh my" one more time I was going to scream. Even the sex scenes became monotonous eventually. I had heard so much about it that I was looking forward to reading it, but yuck. I am obviously in the minority, but I just don't understand the appeal. :pardon:

a movie? my goodness I have not heard that. If they did make a movie I don't know that I would watch it. I imagine it would be rated X

the sex is more "interesting" because of the eye rolling

I don't plan on reading it as per reviews like the ones in this thread. (though I have seen a video of Gilbert Gottfried reading excerpts which was HILARIOUS)

I've read lots of sexy books and know there can be great story development along with smoking sex scenes. (Bella Andre if anyone is interested)

Alright, y'all, I am hardly a prude. I do not embarrass easily. But last night when I was reading this book on my iPhone and a FaceTime request came in from my mother, I could not help but turn red!

No, no, mom. Everything is fine. I was just reading a very graphic scene when your face popped up!
