    Hi, everyone.
at my last OB appointment my OB told me that next time he will do the FFN test. I would be almost 25weeks Can you please tell me will be result available right away or I need to wait for a day? and he mention that he will do this test every 2 weeks ( I think I heard him right)

How often do you girls have this test done? Is it very uncomfortable?
    Please share your experience.

I had to go the ER one night a couple of weeks ago due to immense pains and tightening. Called my after-hours line and the OB got a hold of me and told me to go in and they'll check to see if I am in preterm labor. --thank goodness, no PTL!

But, to answer your question, I did have an FFN done while there. Not sure if it's done the same way at the OB as I have only had it done at the hospital that one time. They used a speculum and used what looked like a long q-tip to swab the inside. Very similiar to how a pap is done. I got the results in one hour, however I'm not sure if it would have come in THAT fast if it were at the OB's office. I bet they'd have sent it to the hospital lab or something and then called with results.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions -good luck with your FFN test!

I had an fFN test done when I went into L&D at 24 weeks. You will have the results right away. If it comes back negative, there is a 99% chance that you will NOT deliver in the next 2 weeks. If the results come back positive, it is rather inconclusive. It does not mean that you will deliver in the next 2 weeks. It means that you are excreting a protein found while in labor. My fFN test came back positive at 24 weeks and I did not deliver until 28. Good Luck!!

I only had them after I started having PTL, not at all as a routine exam. But it was every 2 weeks after the PTL started (which was on and off w/ bedrest for 9 weeks before I delivered). My OB was always very careful with it and it was like a pap test, not really a big deal at all. For some reason the one I had done in the hospital when I was in being obvserved, was quite painful. I'm not sure what they did differently. Plus, they put a bedpan or something under me to prop my hips up, which hurt my back. I think it's like so many other medical things, it can just really depend on who's doing the test. I don't remember exactly how long it took for test results, but seems like it was always within an hour or so.

I had several FFN tests while pregnant with Molly, each time they came back positive. I gave birth to her at 39.5 weeks. If you have intercourse it could give a false positive.

i get the test every two weeks. it's like a pap smear. they call you the next day ONLY if it's positive.

I'd ask your OB about when and how they give results. My OB's office always calls with results from any test. They like to keep a uniform way of giving results.

I had the FFN test done a few weeks ago when I was having some strange cramping. Like the others have said it's just like a pap smear and it didn't hurt at all. They called me the next morning to tell me that it was negative. I haven't had one since then, but that might be because they aren't really concerned with me going into PTL. My cervix is almost freakishly long at this point and my first two kids were never coming out on their own.

I have not got one done yet but my dr talked to me about it on Friday. She said I need to make my apts in the mornings so she can get the results back in the same day and to not have sex within 48 hours of the test because it effects the results of the test. HTH!

I am too and we went in the day after I turned 24 weeks and we had sex the day before so it wasn't 48 hours and I couldn't get the test
