my DD has a fever. before she went to bed at 8 i tool her temp at 7 becauseshe felt warm it was 100.2 now its almost 2am and she is at 103.2 i gave her childrens tylenol for the fever. she also has a stuffy nose which i aspirated and put saline drop in nose. should i do something else?
should i call the doctor right now or wait till morning. i know they say 102 temp for 24 hours to call. but what about 103.2 they never had that

should i put a blanket on her or take off her onsie under her pj's
whay is it when they get sick i become an idiot and question what to do

Have you tried a luke warm bath or a cool cloth on the back of the neck?? I know that these ideas can help break a fever.. and combined with the tylenol, hopefully it will work quickly.

Also, maybe a fan in the room moving the air, but not only directly on her.

Hope that she feels better soon!

You need to bring down that fever - keep up the tylendol and damp cloth or warm bath is a good idea. I would also dress her lightly. Fevers can cause seizures in infants so you need be aware of that. As far as I know if this happens there won't be any short or long term damage but I would be keeping an eye on her until you get the fever down.

Hope it's all sorted by now anyway

How did the rest of the night go? If she's still running high this morning, I ditto what everyone else said, lukewarm bath and dress her lightly. A call to the pedi might be a good idea.

I agree with everyone else. My pedi said as long as the Tylenol brings down the fever (even if the fever doesn't completely go away), its a good thing. I do cool wet washclothes on the head too.

I hope she is feeling better this morning. :love0028:

you can alternate between Ibuprofen every 6 hours and in that time period you can use tylenol too every 4 hours usually with those 2 you can keep the fever down. If you have not called the doctor or been seen by a doctor you should to rule out infections like a ear infection or other nasty bugs that may need antibiotics. We have been dealing with lots of fevers here. YUCKY
I hope your DD is feeling better soon

That is a pretty high fever.... I really really hope that was the rectal read??? If not, I'd be in the emergency room...

Please reply; rectal temp is necessary in infants under one.

I hope it is okay and Tylenol should be your first line of defense and also a very cold bath immediately.. Please let us know.

    From Medline Plus / WebMD:
When trying to reduce a fever:

DO NOT bundle up someone who has the chills.
Remove excess clothing or blankets. The environment should be comfortably cool. For example, one layer of lightweight clothing, and one lightweight blanket to sleep. If the room is hot or stuffy, a fan may help.
A lukewarm bath or sponge bath may help cool someone with a fever. This is especially effective after medication is given -- otherwise the temperature might bounce right back up.
DO NOT use cold baths or alcohol rubs. These cool the skin, but often make the situation worse by causing shivering, which raises the core body temperature.
    Drink cool liquids, as tolerated.

Dr. Sears' website said you can alternate between ibuprofin and acetaminophin every 3 hours.

    I hope everything's better today.

Regardless of how high the fever is, how you deal with it, etc., the most important thing is how she's acting. If she were super lethargic or had some other serious symptoms going on, then THAT would warrant getting checked out more than just a fever itself. Some babies can have somewhat high fevers, but that's just the body's way of fighting infection, virus, or whatever. Also make sure she's taking in enough liquids as fever can dehydrate quite easily. Hope she's feeling better soon!

sorry everyone for making you nervous she is fine now.

after giving her the tylenol it did go down to 102.3 so i took off her clothes and gave her a nice little bath. then i put on her jammies without the onsie underneath. her nose was stuffy so i aspirated it gave her saline and put little noses baby rub on her chest. i tried giving her some water but she didnt want it yet. a little while later she took a bottle. she usually sttn but hey tonight is different. i held her and put cool cloth on forhead and i sang songs to her. she went off to sleep and i spoiled her a little and let her sleep in my arms. she wasnt lethargic or anything so i didnt have to call the doctors. i think she just has a clod

today she still had some temp so i just stayed with her. DS is also stuffy but no fever. they were right attached to me all day. i was really worried last night. tonight i am sleeping in her room to listen to her. i have a twin bed in their also for when my neice stays over which is usually every other weekend lol. i have noticed whenever she doesnt feel good she latches onto me and dont want to let go. so sorry for not letting everyone know she was ok sooner. thanks for the great advice
