What is considered a high fever? Zoe had a terrible night and she had a fever this am of 99.3 and I gave her some motrin....now she woke up from her nap with a fever of 101.4 Is that high? I gave her some more motrin and I will check her again in a while. I just don't want to call the dr and sound like a paranoid mom. Also, this may not be related, but she's been doing this weird thing where she keeps shrugging her right shouder. Just the right one, it almost looks like a tick? Any ideas?

How are you taking the temp? If that's an axillary or ear temp, then yes, it's high ... but nothing I'd necessarily call the pedi about unless there are other worrisome signs. If it's a rectal temp, of course it's still high, but not AS high. :) My girlies had ear temps of 103 last week. I just alternated tylenol and motrin (every 3 hours) to keep them comfortable. As soon as I was able to get their fevers to break, they perked right up. The pedi has told me that greater than 104 warrants a call.

Don't know about the shrugging of the shoulder. Did that come on with the temp? If so, I might be more inclined to call. Also, just call if you are worried. It's always better to have peace of mind about your kiddoes than to worry about what the pedi's office will think of frequent calls!

I only call if it's greater than 101 and doesn't break when I alternate tylenol/motrin. I have no idea about the shoulder!

I usually don't call on fevers if there is nothing else. I give meds & cool sippy cups of water & nice temped baths. Don't know about the shoulder though.

that is still a low grade fever. as long as she appears ok, not lethargic, and taking in food and fluids I would just medicate for comfort and wait and see. :) Josh gets fevers up to 104= which while SCARY, is still not harmful as long as he is doing athe above and the meds keep his fever below 102. I also would switch off between Motrin and Tylenol. As far as the shoulder, maybe she has an ear infection? Is she just shrugging one of her shoulders? Is she tugging at her ear at all?
