Trevor has a fever of 99.9 and is irritable and cranky. He has been eating and drinking today, but not as much as usual. This all started yesterday after his afternoon nap. We had to go to the pedi today anyway for a recheck of Emilie's ears so I had him check out Trevor while we were there, I know they love it when I do that. He has no other symptoms, no runny nose (except when he cries), no congestion, cough, and his ears are fine. He had the stomach bug 2 weeks ago, but has been better for the past 1.5 weeks. He has been putting his fingers in his mouth and is drooling more, so I put my fingers in his mouth and sure enough his bottom gums are very swollen, his molars are getting ready to come in, he has his top ones already. The pedi, didn't think it would be teething, he seemed to think it was a virus, I seem to think it could be teething. He is acting differently from the stomach bug, then he wouldn't do anything, he is actually getting down and playing now just extremely cranky/irritable/and crying a lot.

Do you think it could just be teething? He is fine one minute and playing and the next minute coming over to me crying and just wanting to be held.

Do your kids get fevers when teething?

    Thanks.

My guys always had a low grade fever while teething. Once it was 102, and I called the pedi, and they said to give motrin and tylenol regulated every 2-4 hours. Mine usually had no other symptoms either, just the fever.

It could easily be teething. Every once in awhile my girls will run a low grade fever while teething. You know what I do to tell if it teething or not. I give them 3 tablets of hylands teething tablets and if they get act better then its teething. :) Good luck and I hope he feels better. HTH

Thanks Jamie, Trish, and TabbiSue for getting back to me.

It's good to know that others have noted low grade fevers when teething. That's what I think it is.

    Thanks again. :)

I have six kids from age 14 1/2 yo to 3yo twins and none have had fever while teething, so i'm not sure, but 99.9 is not really that high so probably wouldn't worry too much about it.

Both of mine would get low grade fevers while they were teething.

I could have written this 5 days ago. DS who never has fever when teething, seems to have gotten one due to teething then. He seems to be getting a molar and woke crying with a fever that night, 5 days ago. It cleared within 24 hours and we chalked it up to teething since he had no other symptoms, ate well, etc.

This is exactly what is happening to Trevor. No fever today, thank goodness, and has never had one before, but there is nothing else wrong. He was still a bit cranky today, but got better tonight. Darn molars!!!

    Thanks ladies for the input!!!

We are also cutting our molars. The boys seem to have an off-and-on low-grade fever...but they are so darn wiggly I can't get a reading! ;) They are drooling like Great Dane's (you know, the 3-outfits-a-day kind of drool)

Hopefully the teeth will cut quickly. Our other teething symptoms is that (Joe especially) is not eating much. Normally we have very healthy appetites.

Hey, do you have a gap between your other teeth and the new molars? We have top/bottom 4, then a funny little gap between them and our new molars.
