I feel so sad, my baby girl is all glassy eyed and has a fever of 101.6. I have been sick for 2 days but have not had a fever. Thomas has a small ear infection but no fever.

I gave her tylenol and am giving her lots of cuddles which is tough because all I do is cough and cough.

I read that as long as it is less than 102.2 I do not need to call the PED. Is this right?

We actually have a new PED now thanks to my hubbys new job and I have never met her. I do not want to call her if I do nto need to.

I called our Ped triage nurse when Aiden's temp hit 103.9 & she told me to bring him in when he hit 104. HELLO? I took him in & he had an ear infection. He was listless, whimpery, & glassy eyed too. Tylenol brought it down but I now find, after 6 mos, that Ibuprofen works WAY better on my boys' temps (it's been keeping Conner's temp down the past 2 days) but I couldn't use it when Aiden was that high. As long as your little one is taking in fluids ok, then you're probably ok to just watch it for a while. Do you have a triage line you can call at your Ped? That's what I do & then they help decide if they need to be seen.

Poor baby....how awful she must feel :(. I'd try Ibuprofen when the Tylenol wears off & see what the doc says. Hope she feels better soon!

Thanks - it hurts to see my happy baby all sad looking. 104 is high! WOW!

I think I will call the nurse to be sure of my PEDs policy! Sadly I have never met her and I hate for our first meeting to be because one of them is sick.

Sometimes it helps just to call the nurse and get reassurance that you are doing the right thing. It sounds like you are, but it's scary when their temps get up high. :hug99:

We just got through with some high temps (101-103.2)....when I had him at the doctor's the high was 102.2, and they had me undress him and also gave him both Ibuprofen and Tylenol doses at the same time...they said when it's that high, you CAN do that to bring it down. He came down to 98 withing an hour or a little over an hour. From there on, we alternated Ibuprofen and Tylenol every 3 hours per doc's instructions. My hubby had him the next day and let it lapse to 3-4 hours in between doses, and Donovan's fever went up to 103.2! Cool washcloth helps, too....they may fuss at first, but if you do it gently, I think it feels good!

Call the PED! Even if they are not concerned they should at least know about the problem. Don't feel bad about calling because that is what they are there for, I know I call mine all the time and they probably get tired of the calls, but hey they make all kinds of money to answer my questions!

I am so sorry that your babies and you are sick!! It is sooo hard! :love0028:

Did you call? What did they say? How's she feeling now?

When Aiden was really sick with RSV last week, our Ped specifically said NOT to alternate Tylenol & Ibuprofen. They said the new studies out there show it's too hard on their kidneys. I suppose each Ped is different, just warning you what ours said. He told us that if we had given Tylenol, to wait 4 hrs until it had worn off & then give Ibuprofen. If we had given Ibuprofen, wait 6 hrs until it had worn off to give Tylenol, but pretty much ALL the Peds in our practice push for Ibuprofen over Tylenol (except under 6 mos, obviously).

Sorry to hear you're all sick. When it rains, it pours, right? Luckily I had FINALLY gotten over my cold when the boys got sick & they kinda staggered their severity so that neither was super sick on the same day. This time anyway :).

    Good luck!

They told me if the Tylenol is working to stick with it. It seems to be helping when I put her down for her nap it was 98.9 which is down a bit and a little more normal. Both her and he brother went down for a nap at a non nap time and have been sleeping 1.5 hours.

I dont know what is going on in this house anymore. :)

Oh ya and if in 48 hours she is still feverish, I should bring her in. I am thinking she likely has a ear infection. Her brother is on antibiotics for one!

I know its scary Tammy! Ana spiked a fever of over 104 once, but our pedi said that its not unusual for little ones to get high fevers. However, I would suggest you call back and ask them for specific instructions on what symptoms warrant an emergency visit tonight so you know what to look for (I'm an overly cautious first time mom, but thats what I'd do). GL and I hope she feels better. :hug99:

Poor baby...how awful must she feel? I feel crummy at a 99 degree temp!

I seriously would try Ibuprofen, even if the Tylenol did help before. A luke warm bath & trying to not over bundle her. The big thing is to ensure she's getting enough fluids....you don't want her to dehydrate.

    Keep us posted!

Hold for 15 mins? My goodness...must be lots of sick kiddos at your clinic!

PS I was pretty scared when Aiden hit 103.9...my digital thermometer started chirping all these warning noises & I called the clinic immediately! I was surprised that they didn't even want to see him (I took him into Urgent Care that night when he got super fussy & wouldn't eat)! You're the mama, if you want her seen, you demand she get seen!!!!

We have an appointment at 6:15. They said that a virus is going around and it is not a nice one. They think she may have that. My poor little girl.

She said not to give Ibuprofen now until after our appointment as I had just given tylenol at 4:00.

    I am such a worrier!
