DS has had a fever off and on for almost two days...highest temp recorded being 102. He has two gigantic "bumps" on his bottom gums that look like some molars trying to push through, so that's what I've been attributing the fever (and also fussyness, poor appetite and bad sleeping) to...I've also noticed when he is hot from the fever, his heart feels like it's racing....just googled that, and it says that fever often causes and elevated heart rate to pump the blood out, but it still feels scary to me! We've been alternating Tylenol and Motrin like when he was sick w/ a high fever, but just curiuos at what point I should be concerned that the fever is still hanging around. He's not showing any other signs of sickness aside from his normal morning boogers! Also, what has been your experience w/ the fever...does it disappear once the tooth breaks through? (I already know the Kaiser doctors say that fevers and teething are not related, even though an advice nurse once said, "It sure is funny how they seem to go hand in hand!").

I think 102 is high for teething, in my experience teething doesn't cause fevers of more than 100. Just low-grade. You are right about the heart rate, though. I have commented on that to my doctor before & she said that fevers can definitely increase their heart rates. Sounds like maybe a virus, fevers from viruses will usually pass within 3 days, any more than that & I usually get them checked out. :hug99:

If it's been going on for 2 days and it's been pretty high, I'd take him to the Dr. Fever temps are usually lower than that.

I usually find that the fevers goes once the tooth breaks through

I also agree. 102 is really high for teething and to have it for two days! I think I would call my pedi or bring him to a walk in tonight or tomorrow. It never hurts to be too careful. :hug99: Hope he is better soon.
