Okay, this has been weighing on my mind since my NST yesterday, so I decided to do some research online (not always a good idea, I know). So ladies please tell me if this has ever happened to you, and what your doc said.

Yesterday during my NST BABY B's heartrate went up over 180 and stayed in the 180-200 range for about 10 minutes. Then it returned back to the 140-160 range, where it had been prior to the spike. OB noted the spike, but seemed unconcerned as it had returned to "normal". This seemed really odd to me, but since he seemed unconcerned, I sort of blew it off for the moment. But last night and today it has been really worrying me. The info I've found online is not positive, so I wanted to know if anyone else has had an experience with this. Should I call my OB, or am I being a worry wart???

  2. Since I'm still hanging out awaiting my u/s, figured I'd give you an experience to help ease your mind :) I had this happen with my first ds, and he is fine. My dr said that sometimes when they are active(especially if you have had caffeine or sugar) their heartrate will go up like that. The time to worry is if it STAYS up there, which obviously yours didn't. I'm sure all is fine, and you've had plenty of u/s to catch a heart problem. At your next u/s or dr appt, just ask your dr, to ease your mind :)

  3. I wanted to add, that another cause, can be a mixed signal...meaning, it could have been combining your heartrate and babies or babies and placental flow, if baby was at just the right angle.

Hmm, I've had two NST's so far (this past Monday and the week before) and during both appt's this happened with me too - they didn't stay up there for quite as long, but when the babies were really squirming around the numbers would spike to over 200 several times, but always went back down to 130-140's once they calmed down. Neither the L&D nurse nor my OB were concerned at all...said it was very common.

That happened to one of my boys while I was getting induced. They rushed me and prepped me for a c-section because they didn't know what was going on, but as soon as they did all that, he went back to normal so we waited it out.

They weren't sure what caused it, but everything was fine in the end.
