Carlie's hands and feet turn purple and get cold. I took her in before Christmas and was told everything was fine. The pedi told me that b/c of the viens being so small they get cut off easily. She asked if she cried what they were purple and I told her no, that she was actually very happy during those times. They seemed to get better but now it is happening again. I took her back in on Wed. She had XRays done Thur. but those must of been ok cause they didn't contact me and they would of Friday. She is getting an echocardiogram on Friday. I just pray that it is ok.

Has anyone's baby had this. Claire's hands have also done this, but not as much as Carlie.

One of my girls definitely did this more than the other. I discussed it w/the ped during a regular well-visit and she said it just had to do w/her circulation being immature, but as long as it resolved w/in a short period of time (ie, didn't last more than a few hours) and it wasn't painful, then everything was okay. The ped said it would resolve by 12mos or so, but I don't think it really resolved until 15mos. She would wake up w/purple feet & hands every morning, even if her sister was perfectly warm and toasty in the same room. So, your ped is probably right, and it probably is normal and just something she will grow out of!

My Carley's hands, feet and around her mouth were looking "blue" a couple of weeks ago which made me very worried as she had a cold and was weezy. I spoke with ped and also went on the site webmd - and I was told this was fairly normal for small ones as their circulatory systems weren't quite all developed etc. It still happens ocassionally - but there is no discomfort etc. Hope everything is fine.

One of mine had the same problem.

My ped doc said it was an immature body and they are cutting off their own circulation... mine would have it happen when he was taking a bath and it was because he was bawling his fist so tight - he was stopping all blood to his arm (his arm and hands would actually turn BRIGHT BLUE!) But after about 1/2 hour it would go back to normal. The first time I saw this I thought he had blue dye on his arms and then it happened again the next day... paranoid I called the doctor and the nurse partitioner had to talk me down from near hysteria and said it was quite normal.

the same thing used to happen w/ my little girl...and my pedi said the same as pp...that it was because of the circulation system being immature.

One of my boys did this for quite awhile and I was told the same as the pp. He also is the one you can see a lot of veins when he is in the tub. The Ped called it "modeling." She said it was perfectly normal and alot of babies have it.

Our pedi said the same thing. Meara gets like this. Ana will be all toasty and Meara's hands will be ice. Guess Meara got this from me. But glad that your doctor isn't taking any chances and having her checked out. GL! -Leighann

I called my Ped in a panic on Saturday because Molly's hands and feet were bluish. I was so scared. She told me the same thing - it's normal. We were so scared for a few moments. I just knew we were headed to the ER. Luckily, it went away.
