My 9months olds still do not sleep through the night, that alone,I cna deal with, they've been sick most of the winter with ear infections (thank you New England) so it's been a tough few months for them. But, they wil scream when put in their cribs, or even if they fall asleep being fed and get put in their cribs, they scream and neither one of them gives up easily. We've been trying the CIO at night but it seems like one of them always wakes the other so it's a viscious circle.
We are thinking of moving one crib in to the spare bedroom (sort of attached to my daughters room) and that way, they will not wake each other. I know that we waited to long and coddled them too much letting them fall asleep for the most part before putting them down for naps and bedtime. any help suggestions, I'm feeling at my very worst, like I've got no control of anything with them.... Im sorry you are having a tough time right now. My 10 month olds dont sleep through the night either. Seperating them would probably be a good thing, but just remember some cant get theirs to share a room again once they are seperated. I know that if we had a spare room I would definatly seperate mine, they are light sleepers. Have you tried a sound machine or a fan or anything like that to give them a little extra noise?

We've tried the noise machines (waves, heartbeats, etc) I've got a little machine that plays music and puts a little star show on the ceilind, even just a air purifier noise that I thought might help them but nothing. Sophia tends to pull herself up as much as possible in the crib and pull the bumber down so she can see if anyone walks by and annabelle just lays there and kicks her legs. I'm trying to be consistent with nap times etc and really trying to tough it out at night when they are crying but sometimes at 3am,it's tough not to take the easy route and just bring her in bed with me. I wish I had the no fail solution!!

Ditto. We only have a two bedroom, so seperate rooms aren't an option. PLus the spare bedroom is at the other end of the house, right by the front door, and I am not brave enough to put them in their alone, call me a chicken [IMG]

I don't have a solution for you, just [IMG]s. Sorry that it is so rough on you. Hopefully they will fall into a pattern soon and give Momma some peace!

    Thanks all,
hopefuly we will get it all switched around in the next few days, My husband is going to sleep in the pull out bed in that room for a while so that I don't have to be woken up all the time Plus, like you kysweetheart, I don't want her in that room towards the back of the house all alone....I just hope we can transition them back in to the same room at some point. First of all, I am so sorry you are going through such a tough time. You want to get pass all this, yet you want to enjoy them and enjoy their baby years. It is hard. Hang in there!!

I always feel a little wierd giving advice when it comes to parenting issues. There are so many ways of doing things and so many ideas on how things should be done. So, I will just let you know what worked for us. You can take it or leve it. We got our little ones on a 3 hour cycle. It started the around the same time every morning with a feeding as soon as they woke up. Then they would be awake for awhile. When they started acting tiered, I would put them down for their naps. Then 3 hours from their first feeling I would feed them again. (I would wake them up from their naps to feed them. They didn't seem to mind) Then I would repeat the 3 hour cycle again through out the whole day. They both have been sleeping through the night since they were about 12 weeks old. They are very happy babies as well. Even though your babies are a bit older, I would try a 3 hour cycle with them. Then once they start sleeping throguh the night, I would extended that cycle to say a 4 hour cycle. I think it is the Eat/Wake/Sleep patteren that is important.

Here is an example of my day:

8:00- Babies wake up and nurse.
    9:30(or so)- Nap
    11:00- Nurse
    12:30(or so)- Nap
    2:00- Nurse
    3:30(or so)- Nap
5:00- Nurse (we try to keep them up and not lay them down during
    this time)
    8:00- Nurse
    9:00- Bed
Right before I go to bed (around 11 or so)- Nurse at put the babies right back in their cribs

Once again, this is what worked for us. It also work for my two older boys. After about 4-5 days of getting them on a good eat/wake/sleep cycle, they could be sleeping better for you at night.

What ever you do, I hope things get better for you!!!

How about a noise machine for you and DH so you don't hear them cry and do a little CIO? I find it's harder on us than them to hear them cry in the middle of the night. DH wants to run right in and pick them up if they cry and I have to stop him.

From what I've seen on this site, it takes a few nights of crying, but the babies eventually get the hang of self-soothing and going to sleep. Also, HSHHC by Weisbluth is such a good reference tool for sleeping suggestions.

I'm so sorry you're having trouble. When we did CIO, it was mainly for Chase to sleep through (Cameron already was). We kept them both in the same room, and I did feel horrible that Chase would wake Cameron who would start crying. We didn't want to separate them though b/c of the way our house is set up (with the spare room much further away from us), so I stuck with it, and after a few nights, both were sleeping through.

Let me add this though - When I would read posts about people using CIO and saying it took a couple of nights, it didn't sound that bad...until we did it. I couldn't believe how loudly those babies could scream and for such a long time. It made knots in my stomach. It isn't easy to not go to them at all, but I haven't regretted for a second that we did it because we have two very happy, well rested babies. If you're not comfortable with it, I know a lot of others on this site have talked about methods they've used that don't include CIO. I hope you are getting a full night's rest soon!

I had pretty much the same situation but I did it beacause both of my boys were waking. I also kept them in the same room. It was painful for me but I was so tired and worn out from all their wakings so that helped ease my decision to do it. I was also confident that they did not need to be eating in the middle of the night anymore.
