My 5 and 7 year olds don't have school today and we've been stuck in the house all weekend due to dangerously cold weather.

They really want to do something...(So do I!!) but I don't think I can go anywhere without major issues.

The babies are at a stage where they don't want to be in the stroller at all and screech when they are in it. If I let them walk, they split up and run away. This is usually not a huge problem if places aren't crowded but the rest of the city has no school so any museums or play places are going to be packed.

Where can I go with babies and big boys that won't drive me totally crazy??

I don't think I can take another day stuck in the house!

    Any suggestion??
    Thanks,
    Shoshana

I only have an almost 4 year old, but we are in the same boat. Sometimes, when it is this cold, I will strap them in the stroller and just go wander the mall. There is normally enough there to keep the twins entertained, and mine won't screech too much during a little walking in the mall.

Hopefully someone else will have a great idea for you, that I can maybe use as well. It's tough trying to keep everyone occupied.

Yep, I have that problem too. I have a 7 year old and I do feel guilty that it's hard to go places with the twins. Today, luckily DH is off for the holiday so we are heading to Pizza Hut for lunch to use her book it coupon.

But she is off Tues. and Wed. this week also for professional development days for the teachers. On those days we either stay home or try to arrange playdates for her. Sometimes we have gone to the mall, but usually she'd rather play with a friend.

But you are not alone in your guilt.

Quite honestly, it is something that gets easier the more often you do it. It also gets easier for the kids as they get used to it and it is not such a novelty.

My kids were 3, 7 & 9 when my twins were born. My DH works out of town 2 wks at a time and everything I had to or wanted to do, I had to do hauling at least 3 kids. I am not one to stay at home and while it wasn't always easy (or fun lol) I always felt better if I was out & about.

How about getting together with friends - your house or theirs? Even a trip to the grocery store will make you all feel better.

Hope you have a good day.

I'm with ya - it's a hassle to go anywhere & I just have three :icon_biggrin: But, I still think it's better than staying home all day - the days that we do, all four of us are crankier! And, when we go out - less mess to clean up at home...Does your mall have a play area the babies could work off some of their energy & then be happier in the stroller? What about just letting one out of the stroller at a time? I'm considering getting those harnesses, just haven't yet.

Keep them in the stroller but give them toys, drinks and snacks to keep them occupied. snacktrap.com has snacktrap cups and these great little straps to keep everything attached. BRU sells sippycups that the handles are completely attached (no openings) so the cups stay onboard.

or try those backback leashes. We have the eddie bauer dog & bear from target and they work ok.

The McDonald's Playground near our house has some cool things for older kids too like Dance Dance Revolution--or something like that. When I can't think of anything else I take my kids there either for lunch or ice cream, order a large coffee and hang out for an hour (or two). I don't think anyone keeps track. :)

We have backpack leashes from Target and I am ensure that either they are in the stroller or on the leash whether they cry or not.
