So, last week my LO's had what we now think was Roseola and had very high fevers, runny noses, etc. for a couple of days. I work part-time and since my girls seemed to over the worst of it I went into work. They both were fever-free in the morning and a bit cranky, but I told our babysitter that they were getting over a bug and they should be fine.. boy was I wrong! I was in the middle of an important meeting at work and our secretary came in and said your husband wants you called out of this meeting and he's on the phone. I immediately knew there was something very wrong.. Basically, A. had had a seizure in our babysitter's arms and she had called an ambulance. Thank GOD that we have a wonderful babysitter! We rushed home and we took her by ambulance to the hospital. Turns out that her fever had gone up rapidly to almost 105 and she had a febrile seizure.. I feel like such a failure that I didn't err on the side of giving them something to reduce the fever, but I have always believed (with our ped's guidance) that it is better to err on the side of less tylenol/Ibuprofin with a fever b/c they can do more harm than a fever can.. I'm just kicking myself for not being more vigilant. Anyway, she's home and fine and DH and I are extremely anxious about it happening again... Okay.. sorry.. just had to vent! :)

I am so sorry that happened to you and your LO.. so glad everything is ok. Febrile seizures are quite common though and you can't really predict when they're going to happen. Don't beat yourself up, I probably wouldn't have given tylenol either if the roseola was on it's way out. So glad your babysitter is great and took such good care of her.

Oh I am so sorry this happened to you. I remember clearly the first time my oldest dd had a fib seiz. I rushed her to the ER and the doctor was so kind but I felt a little silly after he explained it. We are in the unluck minority in that my dd had them with EVERY fever. She has always been an over acheiver lol but with a fever she goes from 0-60 in no time flat. And she hardly ever had low grade fevers. its 102+ or nothin for my girl. It is VERY Scary though. (((HUGS))) You A) couldn't have seen this coming and B)no harm done but I know how you feel.

 I'm so sorry this happened to you! But it sounds like you have a wonderful babysitter, and like others said, how were you supposed to know her temp would skyrocket? Don't beat yourself up! Glad she is doing better!

This is the third person I know of who had the same thing happen to their child in the past week! My cousin's son had a seizure last Thursday and it was so scary. There was no way of knowing that would happen to your daughter. Thankfully she is ok!

Everyone is correct in that there is no way you could have predicted or prevented. They are not even caused by the height of the fever but by how fast it rises. If it makes you feel better, I had a febrile seizure when I had roseola at age 18 months and I'm a doctor now :)

I would have been so scared too. I am so glad she's ok. I'm also a working mom and I could gave easily been in the same situation. I feel like we have a good nanny though and it sounds like yours us great too and did the right thing. I hope they are feeling better soon.

Please don't feel bad! I would have done the same thing in that situation. I don't give pain meds unless my kids are acting miserable. I think it's better to let the fever run its course.
