Feel like a bad mom

So, it's the first real snowfall, and I have not bought them any winter boots! Therefore, we really can't go play in the snow. If they go out in sneakers, their feet will get all wet and knowing my girls, they will freak out and not have fun. If I was a good mother, I would be taking them out to play in the snow and taking all these cute pictures and stuff. Sometimes I am such a slacker.

I have been telling my son for months that we can only jump in puddles or play in snow if he has new boots, and the boot maker has been really busy! The boots we had last year were such a pain to get on I am not looking forward to it.
So today, he is sick, so I have kept all the blinds closed so he can't see the snow - I am a much worse mom!!
I am sure you will be ready for the next snow!!

I was late enough last year that we got boots on major sale. Of course we didn't have too much of a selection! This year they are still wearing last years boots! They seem to still fit.

First off, you're not a loser. We got surpised by snow last weekend and had to resort to socks for mittens. ;)

We use our rain boots in the snow. It doesn't snow enough here in Seattle for it to merit a seperate, might-wear-it-once snow boot purchase. Especially when they are outgrowing sizes so quickly.

I got a great deal ($12.50/pair) on a pair of Kamik (high quality) boots from sierratradingpost.com. (looks like their sizes are getting limited). I am VERY happy with this purchase and will be sure to order my boots from them every year.

I couldn't find boots small enough for my boys' size 4.5 feet. The stores don't seem to carry anything smaller than a 5/6, which was sooo big on them they were literally walking out of them.

Kelly, mine don't have snowboots yet either. I was hoping Emilie would fit into my oldest DD's from when she was 2, but they are about 3 sizes too big. <_< And they won't work for Trevor either because they are pink. So, I am hopefully borrowing some from my sister for Trevor, but will have to get some new ones for Emilie. I do think I have 2 snowsuits though, but have to find them. So we aren't prepared, except for my oldest DD and she's already been outside playing in it, for today's snow either. You're not a bad Mom at all!

Kelly, you are not a LOSER or a slacker! :hug99: I much prefer to think of you as a busy mother of TWINS! Hang in there!

If they're anything like my girls, they won't want anything to do with the snow anyway. We have great boots (and snowsuits), but when we set them down in the snow, they whine and want to be picked up. So you're not missing much!

FWIW, we found some Elefanten boots at the consignment store. They are Euro sizes 19 and 21 (roughly 3.5 and 5) and they're Goretex -- really more like hiking boots than snow boots.

Thanks ladies, I feel better. Alden, you're right, they probably would have just freaked and gone "Too wet, too cold, eeeehhh". I never bothered with snow gear since the first winter they were 3-6 months, what are ya going to do, plop an infant in the snow? Then last year, Ainsley wasn't walking yet. This year, I just hadn't gotten around to it yet. This snow was pretty early for MD. I just saw the pretty snow outside and was like we should be out there, I should be taking pictures, then we all drink hot chocolate (but not in sippy cups :D).

Mine wore their rain boots with two layers of socks! That's what we did last year too :) I am going to get snow boots soon though since they might actually enjoy playing in the snow this year! Don't worry - you are not a bad mom!

We live in the south, so there never was much of a need for snow boots or winter gear. Mom would always let us go play anyway for a few minutes at a time. We would just wear 2 pairs of socks, sneakers, some sort of plastic bag over top of our shoes, then another layer or two of our dad's socks over top of the bags. I know it sounds really bad, but for just a few minutes and a couple of pics, it worked out great. Keeps the feet warm and dry.

Last year I just let mine go in their sneakers because they didn't want to stay very long once they realized the snow was cold and wet, LOL! I vividly recall them running outinto the snow, taking off their mittens and grabbing up a bunch of snow in their hands, then immediately bursting into tears crying, "Manos! Manos!" because their hands were cold. (They also speak Spanish, obviously. ) Ahh...good times. :)

Now I do have to go get boots for them. I got some last year at LL Bean when they were 1/2 off, but then we never had any more snow last winter, so they have literally never been worn. I am planning to take them in and exchange them for the correct sizes (gotta love LL Bean's awesome returns policy, yay for excellent customer service), but haven't gotten around to it yet. Hopefully now that all the LL Bean retail stores are open 24 hours for holiday shopping I will be able to work it into my schedule!

Can I just say, though, that the cutest thing in the world is them drinking hot chocolate? (They like to say "chocolate" with the Spanish pronunciation, LOL.) I fixed a pot the other night and served it to them in the espresso cups that match our regular coffee mugs. They are just little junior versions of the coffee mugs, and they just looked too cute sitting at the table with "mugs for tinies" as we called them. I made a big deal out of the "special cups" we had for them, and they felt so very important! :)

Well, this morning going out to the car for preschool, Bea refused to walk, even on our walkway which had been shoveled. I had to carry her out to the car, couldn't even set her down to get the garage door open. So now I don't feel so bad about not having boots or playing in the snow, it would have been bust.

I'm right there with ya. They have snow pants (and just because last year's still fit). No boots yet.
