Both of my boys have upper respiratory infections and for the past two days they have only been eating about 2-3oz of their bottles each feeding. They normally eat about 8oz. each feeding so I am worried that they aren't getting enough. The can't really breath through their nose right now, but they don't seem interested in eating. Their ped. said to just do saline nose drops and suction out the mucus. For the past two days they have only been getting about 12-14oz a day in formula. Would you be worried or is this just expected when they are sick?

They often do seem to eat less when they are sick. I would continue with the suctioning & saline and maybe try feeding them smaller bottles more frequently while they are so congested. Other than that, I think you just have to wait it out. They will most likely start eating more as they start feeling better. Keep an eye on the number of wet diapers so you will know if they start getting dehydrated. I hope they feel better soon!

I agree with Tina. When Annabella was sick, she was REALLY congested. The poor girl could NOT breathe out her nose at all. She would suck the bottle, then stop. And she hardly ate at all. I really didn't worry about it-as she was going to the bathroom. I just kept trying to feed her, and I fed her more upright, so that she wasn't laying down, trying to suck, and all the gunk going to her throat.

I hope they are better soon!

Mine always ate less when they were sick. As long as they are still having wet and dirty diapers they are doing okay. I hope they're feeling better soon.

Awww, my boys have been like that too! Like others said as long as they have wet diapers and BM they'll be fine. You could also try giving them water, they make take that instead if they're not feeling well!!

    Hope they feel better SOON!

Mine were like that some too. Just keep the drops and suction up. Also try hot steamy bathroom and you could even maybe try to suction then go in the bathroom and sit and maybe even try a feed while hanging out there?
