How do you feed 9 month old twins!? Mine are going through a phase where I feel like I'm trying to
feed a couple of zoo animals! Most of the times I try to feed them breakfast/lunch/dinner at the same
time, putting both in their high chairs and taking turns with each bite. They seem to really fuss
during this time. One starts complaining and then the other one starts and they only eat a very small
amount....like not even a 4 oz jar! My Ped says they should be eating 6 to 8 ounces of solids at each
feeding by now. So every once in a while I can feed them separately, put one in the high chair and let the
other one play and then they both eat more. However, this doesn't always work because the other one
(who is playing) may or MAY NOT cooperate! HELP! What do you all do when feeding solids? Should I
just let them fuss and keep trying to feed them together? Any solutions?

I don't think you need to stress about solids right now. Formula or BM should still be their primary source of nutrition and has everything they need in it. Solids are just for practice, so it doesn't matter that much how they eat. Mine are 8 months and only eat about 3 ounces each. They have 2 meals a day of solids.

Our boys are a bit older, but I know that they will do this too...Specifically Ryan. We have learned that when he does this, it's because he wants to feed himself. They are eating mostly regular meals with us...they do really well on solids, but even if we are giving them something like pureed apples, I"ll put a spoonful of apples on his tray and feed him in between his fists full of feeding himself. It has made meal time a lot better!

    Good luck!

I would give them their own spoon to hold, maybe that would entertain them. Do they get any finger foods yet? Maybe a few Cheerios or Puffs on their tray would keep their attention while you feed them the pureed food.

My boys are nine months and don't eat a lot at all. I find that if I feed them seperately then they eat better and the whole thing is less stressful. I feed my boys in their bumbo chairs on the table because they aren't very good at sitting up in the high chairs yet. I usually feed the faster eater first and let the other boy play in the other room and then switch. I wouldn't worry about the amounts either as long as they are growing things should be good. My boys still only eat two meals a day.

I agree with pp. Mine fuss when I feed them sometimes, because they just want to feed themselves. I just put some things on their tray that they can feed to themselves and try to slip a few bites in between. Mine are almost 11 months and are no where near eating 6-8 ozs per feed (unless you include the formula too!). They may get about 4 each, but not always.

Ok, I feel better now! :) I do let them hold their own spoons while I try to 'sneak' in bites. I also let them do the Puffs and other snacks off their own trays but I was starting to feel like that was ALL they wanted to eat! Lunch time today was a complete joke. I probably could have sold the video had I been recording it! DD started to spit and blow her carrots out at me and thinking she was hilarious, DS then started to do the same. I tried not to make a big deal out of it because they already know they are cute...

lol...I guess ya just have to laugh, right!?

LOL I haven't been here for a few months and went to login just to post this same thing and see whats going on with other moms. I've been letting them feed themselves lunch and dinner now, my husband is not trilled cause we still have baby food but I'm just doing whatever makes our day go a little smoother. I've been cutting up string cheese, hotdogs (not the best but they like em, I get Hebrew National reduced fat /shrug), roasted potatoes, apples, squash and carrots and letting them pick them up and fed themselves, now they seem to eat A LOT. I'm thinking about stocking up on cans of peas and carrots and fruit cocktail and letting them have at that too esp since it seems EASY. Trying to think of other types of meat that they can feed themselves so any ideas on that would be GREAT!!

I agree with pp. Mine were eating table foods at 9 months, with a bit of pureed ( what they would eat). They like feeding themselves. I give them everything cut up in small pieces and still "try" and give them stuff from a spoon, it usually ends up in my DD hair because she wants the spoon! Try the foods your giving them in small pieces and see what they do.

    Just a finger food idea.....

In the freezer section near the fries are sweet potatoe fries and red potatoe quarters. I get the chicken tenderloins and put bread crumbs on them and bake them and they love those. I cut them up even more into like chicken sticks. Another new favorite is frozen yogurt, I buy the stoneyfield organic Go-Gurts and freeze them. I cut it into pieces and put it in their mesh feeders.

If anyone else has good finger foods.....Please post them. Im always looking for new things.

Amen sista! I thought Aurora was going to turn into one big giant Puff! My girls are 9 mos this week and it's nearly impossible to get 'baby' food in them. I have started letting them feed themselves because it's better for everyone involved. Breakfast is Ceer-ios and dried fruit in their exersaucers, then lunch and dinner are in the high chairs.

Great idea with the chicken. I made sweet potato fries last night and it was very easy. Cut the potato into strips or cubes, toss in a little olive oil, bake at 400 for about 20ish minutes, turning once. The girls LOVED them! I also keep a bag of frozen green peas on hand and can zap a handful in about 2 min. I'm going to try avacado tonight.
