Our ped told me that we could go ahead and give our 2 month old twins cereal. My question is how many times should I feed them the Cereal? Just once a day? I have never had to formula feed babies before so this is all new to me. My first son went straight from bm to adult food and skipped all the baby food. And is it unusal for babies so young to be on cereal? The boys were 5.8 and 7.6 when born at 36 weeks and now weigh in at 12 lbs each.

2 months is a little early, usually its around 4 months. I would give it to them once a day seeing as they are so young, if they take it well go for another serving.

I have always heard and it says on the box of rice cereal not to start until 4 months old. Is there a reason your doctor wants them started so young? If you are not comfortable feeding them cereal then I wouldnt do it. I would be a little concerned about triggering allergies starting it so young, JMO.

Do yours have reflux, and the pedi is wanting the cereal in the bottle? I can't imagine giving them cereal at 2 months. I didn't start until 4 months, and I know a lot of people wait until 6 months.

Mine were on it at 2 months old as well, but for reflux issues.

Some say to give it to them because they will sleep thru the night, which isn't always true because it can cause a belly ache instead.

I gave them a tablespoon each at that age, with every bottle. It helped with the spit up issues.

For my second and third children, my doctor put my daughters on cereal at two weeks and baby food at four weeks. I think it just depends on your doctor. Afterall, most of us (well...the older ones here) went home from the hospital on cereal.

When I started it, I gave it in the morning. Then I also gave it in the evening. I would call your doctor and just ask when he would like you to give it to them. At that age, you just have to keep pushing it back into their mouths. They will be fine, I am sure.

They are bottle fed so I have no problem getting them to eat it. It's keeping them from eating it all the time. [IMG] My doc said at night. Both of them have reflux and it has helped except for my oldest one wants it all the time.
